Le Grand Bornand

The village of Le Grand Bornand is in the Haute Savoie region of France, just under an hour from Geneva airport. The area is popular in the winter with snowsports enthusiasts, with Le Grand Bornand at the base of some fantastic ski runs. You can read more about Le Grand Bornand ski resort here.

In the summer the area is used by hikers to walk on the popular trails. Several of the chair lifts and gondolas continue working during the summer months, so you can still get to the awesome views.

Les Roc de Tours

Just below the slopes of the mountains at the base of the Le Chatelet and Floria chair lifts is the hotel Les Roc de Tours. It’s the perfect location for getting up the mountain, not even a 5 minute walk and you are at the chairlift! I can see why this is a popular hotel for ski and snowboarders!

In the reception area is a bar/lounge area with piano, perfect for socialising with friends. There is also live music on occasion, ask at reception for more details.

Late check in is available on request, with keys being left in an outdoor code safe to collect on arrival. Early check out (before 8am) is also available if required.

Apartment

There are 67 apartments available in several chalet style buildings. They range from 1-4 bedroom apartments and all include a sofa bed to sleep an extra 2 people.

The apartments have a fully equipped kitchen area, including an oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and Nespresso machine. You can also requests the use of pancake, fondue and raclette sets from the reception area. The only thing that was missing for us was a pair of oven gloves!

Every apartment has a balcony or terrace and a living area with television, phone, writing desk and free Wi-Fi. Two sets of slippers and dressing gowns are also provided in the main bedroom. Very useful for walking to the pool or sauna areas!

Facilities

An underground car park is available free of charge, the clicker key is given on arrival. Entrance to the car park is located on the lower levels of the hotel facing the slopes.

There are two ski rooms available for use by hotel residents. You are directed to use the ski room in your chalet complex, there is one for chalets A, B and C and another for E, D and F. Simply use your room key to open the corresponding locker with room number. Each ski locker can accommodate up to 4 sets of ski or snowboard equipment. It’s a 2 minute walk to the Floria and Chatelet ski lifts from the ski lockers.

The hotel also has a spa, sauna, gym and swimming pool. The swimming pool can get busier with adults after 5pm when the chair lifts close, so try and visit a little earlier if you have kids. Around 4pm it seems to be mostly families with children. Request brown towels from reception for use in the pool and sauna areas. Access to the pool is by code.

Extra Services

Reception can provide the use of other kitchen gadgets such as fondue and raclette sets on request. It’s also possible to request board games, DVDs and baby equipment (including monitors) fro reception.

Fresh bread and pastries can also be requested before 6pm at reception for collection at 8am the following morning. Perfect for a tasty breakfast!

Is Les Roc de Tours Good For Families?

We really enjoyed our stay at Les Roc de Tours with 2 children aged 9 and 11 years old. It was the perfect location to the access the slopes without much of a walk and no complaining from the kids! Each evening we could watch the snow groomers appear from out of their shed and watch them head up the slopes to prepare it all for the following day. We were located in chalet C, which was perfect for watching the slopes before and after we headed out.

With the kitchen we were able to cook meals in the apartment, rather than paying for restaurants all week. The costs can certainly add up with a family of 4 eating out! The Sherpa supermarket across the road from the reception was great for buying food for us all.

The staff were great and the option of a pool for some downtime for the kids was great too. We definitely would recommend Les Roc de Tours for families.
