I’ve noticed that there are lots of different Halloween family events coming up in Scotland, not just the usual pumpkin patches. Halloween Family Events in Scotland
Loch Lomond Scary Faerie Trail, Balloch

The Scary Faerie Trail is a Halloween themed faerie trail through the woodlands by Luss. Adult and Child tickets include activity guide book, souvenir wristband and pencil to help you solve the mystery by following the clues around the woods.
Booking: Essential, booking through the website, £15 for the Halloween Encounter and £7.50 for the Scary Faerie Trail or £9.50 including pumpkin.
Opening dates: Select dates from the 1st to 31st October.
Pumpkin Festival, East Links Family Park

Book tickets for the park during the Pumpkin Festival dates (15-31st October) to pick a pumpkin and carve it at the park, leaving all the mess with them! Tickets include a free pumpkin for every child, fancy dress competition, Halloween themed hunt, haunted house and lots of fun and scary music and jokes throughout the park.

Pumpkin Carving and Halloween Fireworks Nights at Conifox, Edinburgh
Choose your own pumpkin and carve a spooky face (or whatever you wish!), enjoy ghoulish photo ops, Halloween themed games and a devilish disco. Tickets include adventure park entry too (but not the indoor play area).
Or book an evening of Halloween Fireworks at Conifox with a spooky night of show-stopping fireworks, a flame-tastic fire performer, The Witches Labyrinth, Broomstick Flying School, Devilish Disco, Pumpkin Patch and the Funhouse of Fear Maze!
For an extra charge you can also enjoy Taylor’s of Edinburgh Funfair, face painting and marshmallow toasting.

Halloween Pumpkin Party, Kelburn Estate
At Kelburn Estate kids will love the Halloween Pumpkin Party. Get ready for a fun-filled family day out at Kelburn’s Pumpkin Party! Perfect for children aged 0–13, this autumn celebration combines the magic of Halloween with hands-on creativity and outdoor play.
Each Child ticket includes:
- Pick & carve your own pumpkin in the Kelburn Pumpkin Patch (tools & templates provided)
- Toast marshmallows over the open fire
- Spooky Trail quizzes to explore and discover
- Halloween-themed games for all the family

Wondrous Woods at Gosford House, Edinburgh

*This is not open for 2024, instead the website mentions planning for a 2025 event.*
Visit the stunning estate at Gosford House for a fantastic outdoor light trail in the woodlands. It’s not a Halloween themed event, instead an October light show. The trail is 2km long and has sound, light and special effects.

Craigies Farm Pumpkin Festival and After Dark Festival
Craigies Farm have their annual pumpkin festival again in 2024 alongside the spooky after dark event!
Alongside the popular PYO Pumpkins, Craigies Pumpkin Festival will offer delight and frights to families during the day. Tickets include entry to the pumpkin patch so you can get your hands on the best ones for carving (Pumpkins are purchased at an additional cost). As one of the closest pumpkin patches to Edinburgh, and with countless home-grown pumpkins of every shape and size Craigies is the perfect place to pick your own pumpkin.
Visitors can also access the Monster Bale Trail, lots of Halloween themed photo opportunities and the chance to enjoy tasty farm fresh food and drinks. It’s the perfect Halloween fun for the whole family.
As night falls, there’s definitely something spooky in the air.
Dare to join us for a night filled of spine tingling frights and fun – if you’re brave enough. Our Haunted Harvest is not for the faint hearted!

Newhailes Haunted Halloween Trail, Edinburgh
This year the trail will stretch across the whole estate and be a new spooky experience. Come and visit our Haunted trail this Halloween, walk through the estate and follow the clues, finishing up in our Stables courtyard for fun games. It’s going to be spooktakular.
Booking: Via Eventbrite. Prices are £4 children, adults are free with accompanying children. Broomstick training is an extra fee. Plus £4 car park charge for non-members of NTS.

Botany and Broomsticks
Something wickedly exciting is coming to St Andrews Botanic Garden this Halloween! Join our “Botany & Broomsticks” spooky sessions on Saturday 26th October for spook-tacular family science & nature activities
Booking: Essential, £11 per child with up to two adults included per child.
Opening Times: Three 90-minute sessions on the 26th October available at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm
Junior Halloween Spooktacular, Mugdock Park
Calling all Pirates, Princesses, Dragons and Dinosaurs! Get ready for a frightfully fun time as you boo Hashtag the Horrible, giggle along with the hilarious Mr Frog and join Lovely Lizzie- Mugdock’s friendliest witch- on a thrilling pumpkin hunt! (Remember your wellies!)It’s spooky, silly and seriously good fun- Don’t Miss It!

Almond Valley Spooktober
Almond Valley Heritage Centre has several Halloween events this year. From the day time fun, to family fright nights and the spooktacular ball.
During the day you can explore the Trail of Lost Spells, Mischief and Mayhem, burn off some energy at the all new indoor Crazy Bales, take part in the dark arts craft school, enjoy the crazy bales maze and a themed menu in the cafe. There will also be carnival games, animal encounters and the cinema of scare in the museum. There will be something for everyone!
Family fright nights include the spooky story teller, a feast at the Witches Butchery and Bakery, exploring the Witches Alchemy Studio, the Cinema of Scare, a Trick or Treat Station and twisted carnival games.
On the 31st October enjoy a Spooktacular ball with the kids! With DJ Bones spinning bone-breaking, scream-making hits that will leave you SPELLBOUND! Scariest dressed prizes and fire eating performances!

Ghosts Of Glamis Castle
Visit Glamis Castle for a family-friendly storytelling sessions as part of our Ghosts of Glamis event! Designed especially for those under 14, these sessions will feature a 30-minute ghost tour of the castle, filled with ghostly tales rather than jumps and scares. This change allows our later tours to be exclusively for those aged 14 and over, ensuring a spookier than ever before experience.
Booking: Essential, £10 and adult and £5 a child for family sessions and £20 an adult for the adult only sessions.
Opening Times: The family sessions are on 26th and 27th October only, 14+ adult sessions are from 25th-31st October.
GlasGLOW Botanic Gardens, Glasgow
This Halloween season, the doors to 10 epic realms will open. It’s time to Trick or Treat!
Ten worlds to excite or scare*. Knock knock… if you dare. Buckle up (or dress up!) for a 60 minute outdoor blockbuster as GlasGLOW returns to Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens.

Strathclyde Park Pumpkin Festival
Strathclyde park has lots going on for their pumpkin festival! With storytelling inside the new indoor heated theatre, Halloween themed games, pumpkin trail, a pumpkin patch, Halloween arts and crafts and a ride on the pumpkin express land train.
Booking: Essential – Cost is £11.50 including a pumpkin (no hot drink) or £8.50 including a hot drink (no pumpkin).

Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway Steam n’ Scream
Journey on a historic steam train in your best fancy dress with Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway. Tickets include the train journey, live entertainment and goody bag for paying children. Enjoy the Halloween decor at Birkhill station too!
Booking: Essential, tickets must be purchased in advance. £15 per person, under 2’s free.
Opening Times: 26th October, 2 times available.
Camera Obscura Halloween Hunt
Enjoy a Halloween trail at the Camera Obscura, included in ticket price. There will also be themed decorations, ghostly projections, scary portraits and hair-raising photo ops.
Booking: Included in normal ticket price.
