The Importance of Creativity For Kids

Creativity is definitely important for children. It can help with problem solving and being more able to deal with uncertainty throughout life. It also helps with their imagination and being able to see things from other people’s point of view.

This includes colouring-in, the children love to make up stories about the things they are colouring and thoroughly use their imagination at every point! Without imagination and creativity there would be a lot of fun missing in the world. It’s also an important skill for socialisation and emotional connection with others.

Colouring In For Kids

The children enjoy colouring, especially my eldest. He likes to take his time colouring everything in the colours he decides it should be. Sometimes these are the colours things are in the ‘real’ world and other times they are whatever colour he feels like using at that moment.

It’s also a great skill to use for improving handwriting and pen control. The better a child gets at controlling a pen for colouring the easier it will be for them to write. This is especially good for those children who struggle with good pen grasp or reluctant writers.

Of course colouring is also a perfect way to practice mindfulness and instil a bit of calm into their lives. Particularly useful for the children who are non-stop on the go all day long!

EatSleepDoodle

Place Mats

The children were each sent a placemat to review. The youngest chose the popular Fairytales and Legends placemat whilst the eldest opted for the new Space Explorer placemat.

They arrive folded up with pens in a little tote bag, perfect for popping in a hand bag to take out for lunch. Or in our case putting in our hand luggage to take abroad. With days out on holiday being very busy and active, it was good for the kids to have a little downtime colouring.

Each placemat has two sides to colour. For the Fairytales and Legends placemat it has one side like a book to write and draw your own story. Then on the other side is a very detailed picture of lots of different fairytales and lengends. Littlest had great fun spotting all the ones he knew including Rapunzel, Cinderella, Robin Hood and Hansel & Gretel. It takes a lot of time to colour them all, but it’s great to see them happily colouring in!

The Space Explorer placemat is new to eatsleepdoodle and perfect for anyone who enjoys learning about space. The eldest had dun colouring in all the planets and space craft on the main picture side, reading the distances and names of each craft. The pens have a good selection of colours so he was able to get most of the planets the colour he wanted.

On the opposite side is a Mnemonic to help kids remember the order of the planets and a picture with information about the first moon landing. Definitely educational and fun to colour in for space enthusiasts too!

The mats are incredibly easy to colour in with no colour bleeding or running. Certainly quality material and easily washable in the machine, we placed them in with darker colours and it came out perfectly white and ready to colour again.

Heroines of History Table Cloth

*Unfortunately Eatsleepdoodle no longer make this particular design, but you can still find plenty of other table cloth designs on their website.

Eatsleepdoodle have a new table cloth too. It features 20 Heroines of History, plus a few blank sections for you to add your own heroines too. I love that they have included a variety of heroines including Boudicca and Cleopatra to Sacagawea and Mary Eliza Mahoney.

As with the placemats you can colour in the table cloth with the pens and then wash to remove the colours to repeat again. This is perfect for an art party with kids around the table colouring different sections, or just to keep the kids sitting there longer whilst eating food!

And of course there will be many questions about who each woman is and why they are heroines. So you will definitely need to google quite a bit to help educate the kids (and perhaps yourself) on the women’s amazing achievements.
