Why The Hoover Brand?
Hoover are a well known brand, first established in the USA in 1908. We even still use the name Hoover interchangeably with vacuum cleaner, which just shows how synonymous the name is with vacuum cleaners in the UK!
As it’s such a well known brand, we expect their vacuum cleaners to be of good quality. Which after trying out this version I have to agree!

Hoover H-Free 500
The HF500 Hoover is a cordless, lightweight and compact vacuum cleaner. The compact Hoover even arrives in a fairly compact box, much smaller than I was expecting! Yet once you open the box you realise it’s just been well packed!

Most of the packaging is carboard, which is great as it can be recycled. Although the separate parts of the vacuum cleaner were wrapped in thin plastic bags. Perhaps these may be changed to compostable bags at some point? That would be much better than the current plastic used.

The vacuum cleaner was easy to set up from the box and had a little charge to test it out before recharging. With a removable battery it can be charged anywhere in the home.
Useful Features
There are several useful features on the H-Free 500 model. My favourite is the light on the floor nozzle that illuminates dark corners. This is great for hoovering under a sofa or below tables. Although it does make you realise just how dirty those dark corners of your house are!!

Other great features are that it’s light weight, so it’s easy to carry upstairs or for use by people who can’t cope with heavier models. It can also fold away easily to be stored out of the way.
The Turbo boost button is brilliant when you need an extra boost to get rid of stubborn dirt. I tried this button myself and was impressed how much it got out of an already clean carpet!
Finally, it has a great run time of 40 minutes before it runs out of battery. This is great for us, as I can use it frequently through the day to hoover up the kids mess or the crazy amount of sand that always appears in our house! We don’t even live near a beach, ha ha!

Ease of Use
The vacuum cleaner was very easy to put together and work out how to use. The battery was slightly charged when I begun using the vacuum cleaner. As you can see in the photo below the lights clearly show the battery needs to be charged further. I like that there is a warning light so you know that it need to be charged up further.
It was also useful to have the separate buttons for turbo and carpet, so you can choose which type of power is required. The light on the right shows which type of power you are currently using.

The lightweight body means it is very easy to transport around the house. Including using on the stairs and carrying upstairs. I had no issues with attaching the different heads, there are 3 available including a floor brush, furniture brush and nozzle.
The only part that required looking at the instructions was how to reduce the height for storage. But once it was checked in the manual it was easy to removed the top part and hook it onto the rest of the hoover. It can easily fit into a cupboard or behind furniture out the way.
Verdict

The Hoover H-Free 500 is great for family life. I particularly enjoy the fact it’s light, easy to store and has a light on the hoover to see into dark corners and under sofas or tables.
The Hoover was easy to set up and works well on both carpet and wooden floor. I am definitely going to enjoy using the vacuum cleaner from now on!
