Go On Field Trips
Learning doesn’t happen only in a classroom or at a desk! Get outside and visit museums, castles, nature reserves and find fantastic learning opportunities.
It’s amazing what kids can learn from hands-on experiences. We love visiting places like Stirling Castle where the actors always tell you interesting information each time. Or even just listening to podcasts on the way to days out!
Use online resources when you’ve got a creative block.
There are plenty of online resources you can take advantage of when it comes to the internet. For those heading into their exams, this 11 plus practice is a great way to get them prepared when you’ve got a creative block and need some guidance.
It’s important to keep your learning activities fun and not too formal, so mix it up where you can.
Plan outdoor activities.
Where possible, get your children outdoors. So much of life is stuck inside, watching television or with their head glued to a tablet or phone.
A reminder that the world outside exists is important for young children to become more appreciative of the world around them as they get older.
Use technology sparingly.
Worryingly, 97% of children aged between 5-15 went online via a device. Technology is all around us and it can be hard to escape it. When it comes to learning tools, try to limit technology where you can.
By limiting technology, it can encourage your children to use their own knowledge and creativity in learning environments.
Don’t make it feel like learning.
Most importantly, try to take the feeling of learning away from the activity. Think about how you present the activity and what you say. It’s always good to provide a learning environment that doesn’t feel like a chore or something they’re wishing away so they can go do their own thing.
Create learning activities that are going to get them engaged and itching to do it again the next day.
