As you may have read in this post, Mr A turned 2 years old last week. As he loves Julia Donaldson books, in particular the Gruffalo (mainly because he likes the mouse!) we decided on a Gruffalo themed birthday party.
We had a mix of ages, along with several little ones, we didn’t plan any party games. Instead I printed out some Gruffalo colouring sheets from Twinkl and created this cute bunting there too ( the create your own option is great for this!). I did set up a little area where the older kids could wrap wool around a snake shape, although I think this was beyond them and only O managed to finish his (with a lot of help).
For the party food table I used this cute Gruffalo tablecloth, with matching plates and cups, all from Party Bags and Supplies. They looked really sweet, hard wearing and matched our theme perfectly.
I made a second Gruffalo cake (the first one for his actual birthday is here) using a tutorial on Pinterest to help model the two figures, which the kids loved.
We had a sausage log pile house, green grape warts, strawberry and marshmallow toadstools, clementine dipped in chocolate were bugs, Cucumber and sandwich snake, Gruffalo paw biscuits and walnuts filled with mini marshmallows and fruit flakes (the mouses nut).
We also gave each child a little Gruffalo party bag filled with themed goodies, which were are pretty good value for the contents, including a frog noise maker, monster finger topper, toy snake, small chocolate and toy plane.
The pre-filled party bags came with the Gruffalo party pack for 8, which also included the table cloth, pack of Gruffalo napkins 8 x cups and 8 x plates for £28. This made it so easy to keep to our theme and no effort required in sourcing goodies for party bags or even putting things in the bags as they were all carefully filled on arrival.
Mr A had a great second birthday party and was in love with all the Gruffalo themed goodies!
Check out Party Bags and Supplies for your next birthday bash.

What a wonderful party – we all love the Gruffalo! I’m so impressed that you managed to split all of those walnuts in half – do you know a special trick or did it just take a lot of perseverance?

I don’t have kids of my own but I thoroughly enjoyed this post anyway. Love your creative snacks – I would totally do the sandwich snake for myself just because it looks healthy and yummy – with a side of chocolate orange wood louse for dessert 🙂
