Scotland has several fantastic sunflower fields, where you can pick your own sunflowers from a local family farm in the summer season. The best sunflower fields all appear to be in central or Eastern Scotland. The best time to visit these sunflower fields varies, but usually they are in full bloom in early August until the beginning of September. By early autumn they will all be finished and the Scottish sunflower farm will be moving over to the pumpkin patch!
Sunflower season is a perfect activity for the summer holidays and there are usually lots of photo opportunities at those fields where there are sunflower mazes. Make sure you visit in peak bloom time in August to pick your own flowers!
You’ll find these pop-up farm events are very seasonal and the farms all do other pick your own produce and activities at other times of year. So it’s also fun to visit the same farm for sunflowers, berries and pumpkins over the year too! And of course, just getting out into the fresh air is great for everyone!
So here are the best places for sunflower picking in the Scottish summer months!

Corrimony Farm, Inverness
At Corrimony Farm you can pick sunflowers every Saturday once they’re ready. This year that is August and September. Tickets are available on Eventbrite at £4 admission per person, under 3’s are free. It’s also £1 per stem if you want to pick your own.
Gloagburn Farm Shop, Perth – Pick Your Own Sunflowers, Scotland
We like to go to Gloagburn Farm Shop for acres of sunflowers as it’s huge and quite close to us. It’s not just a pick your own sunflower patch, but a huge sunflower trail to walk along, with lots of different activities for kids to try. The trail has a few short cuts, but be prepared to be walking for around an hour if you choose the longer routes! One year the sunflower trail was the shape of Scotland, but it changes each year!
It’s the perfect place to admire the bright yellow petals on a day trip to enjoy sunflowers in the sunshine!
Unfortunately, last year (2024) the sunflower crop didn’t grow, despite many attempts. So do check whichever farm you are going to had sunflowers this year. It can really depend on the weather for growth!
Adult tickets are £7.75 (for anyone 13+), 12 and under are free. It’s also £1.50 per stem or 5 for £5, with several varieties of sunflowers to choose from. There’s a large car park too.
Craigie’s Farm, South Queensferry
In South Queensferry you will find Craigies Farm. They have pick your own fruit throughout the year and in September it’s the turn of sunflowers. Book an entry ticket for each adult at £5 per person and then you’re free to pick sunflowers and also the seasonal produce available when you visit. Come back again in October for pumpkin picking!
Balgone Estate Sunflowers, North Berwick
Balgone in North Berwick also has a sunflower trail, in aid of the Samaritans Charity, as well as PYO sunflowers. This is a perfect little trail for families to walk along and take lots of beautiful photos, whilst cutting some sunflowers to take home. Visit this family run business for a great PYO day out!
It’s £1 per stem and is open at the end of August
Cairnie Fruit Farm, Cupar – Best Sunflower Farms
Over in Fife you will find Cairnie Fruit Farm with various pick your own fruits alongside sunflowers in August and September. It’s one of the biggest fruit farms in the area, so it’s great that you can PYO sunflowers too. It’s also well known for it’s pick your own strawberries, so buy a punnet whilst your here!
No need to pre-book to PYO sunflowers, you pay for sunflowers by the stem (free entry to the PYO sunflowers) and fruit by weight at the PYO kiosk when you leave. The beautiful sunflower field is perfect for photos too!
The kids will want to play in the farm park play area and visit the maize mega maze too, so you can easily make a whole day out of it!
Cononsyth Farms, Angus
You can find sunflowers to pick at the working farm of Cononsyth in Angus in late July and throughout August. They are usually ready around the last weekend of July, so this is an earlier PYO in Scotland.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite and its £6 per person, under 3’s are free. Sunflowers are £1 per stem or 6 for £5. They also have a sunflower maze, honey berry orchard and PYO lavender.
NJ McWilliam Flower Fields, Laurencekirk
This is a little different as it’s a PYO flower field with an honesty box! So please be honest and pay for exactly what you pick. Prices are displayed for all the flowers at the entrance, sunflowers are a £1 per stem. This is just a small field of sunflowers, but there are still plenty of beautiful sunflowers to choose from.
You can find the NJ McWilliam flower fields near Laurencekirk.
Thorneybank Farm Shop, Inverurie
The Thorneybank Farm Shop in Aberdeenshire has a pick your own sunflower patch for one weekend in August. This year it’s the 18th, 19th and 20th of August.
The patch is open from 10am – 4pm and it’s £1.50 per stem.
