I love creating gifts for my friends and family, and after my successful Mother’s Day gift jars I decided to create some Easter gift jars.
1. Cake in a Jar. This has to be my favourite idea, I love cake and the idea of cake in a jar is a very tempting and delicious alternative to the Easter egg (or perhaps an addition to a chocolate egg!). The idea is very simple, bake a cake, break into pieces and press into the jar in layers between icing and jam. Finish with sprinkles or mini eggs for an Easter’y’ feel. You can also add a label for the recipient as I have here.
2. Easter Playdough Jar. This is a great alternative to chocolate eggs for the younger children, or those who have allergies (or just don’t like/need more chocolate). Make playdough from whichever recipe you like, I used Imagination Tree’s recipe here and roll a couple of different coloured balls, place into the jar and add some spring themed small pieces and a cutter. We placed some chicks, eggs and a chick cutter to our jar.
3. Biscuit Recipe Jar. If you like the cake jar, then you’re likely to enjoy this one too! Choose your favourite biscuit recipe and more than likely you’ll need to halve it to fit in the jar. Add the dry ingredients layer by layer, finishing with some Easter or spring themed sprinkles (I had tiny eggs, but they went missing, so we used butterflies and stars!). Make sure you add a tag with directions of how much wet ingredients and how long to cook.
4. Children’s Play Jar. I like to encourage imaginative play. You may be surprised at how little your child needs to make their own little small play. I’ve simply added some green plastic grass like strips, coloured eggs and coloured chicks for play and colour matching. You can add whatever you would like, the little small plastic eggs that open would be great too, kids love putting chicks in and out of the eggs.
