Kids bedrooms are always a lot of fun to design. Particularly if you take into consideration the child’s own interests. They often have some very specific ideas on the colour and themes, which may be challenging to incorporate, but are always fun! The final difficult storage option are board games. We have plenty ourselves and have a few storage options for these items. If you have space on lower shelves, set the boxes on their sides so they can easily be slid out of position. However, if you have a crazy amount of games like us, you can think outside the box, literally. Take the contents out the box and store them in clearly labelled bags, which can be filed into large storage boxes or baskets, or even hung up by clip trouser hangers! Don’t get rid of the boxes though, keep them in the loft for future use if you choose to sell or giveaway the board game.
The main aim in children’s rooms is to keep the floor space as clear as possible. Children are often on the floor playing with toys and building things. Plus the less trip hazards the better, if your kids are like mine they easily fall over things!
Extra Storage Options
Don’t forget to think about all the unused areas of a kids room and how you can incorporate extra storage. Think of a creative way to streamline toys! Wooden crates are excellent as both shelving or floor storage and cube storage are excellent at hiding a sea of toys! They are so many genius ideas to hide kids clutter, just make a few searches on Pinterest.
One of the best ways to include extra storage for kids rooms is within their bed itself. Cabin beds and ottoman beds are great options for including storage for children. Have a read of the storage bed options below, they are excellent for kids storage.
Storage Beds For Kids
The practicality of a bed with storage is a big hit for parents. However, with so many options available it can be a bit overwhelming. First it’s important to think about safety, so taller cabin beds may not be suitable for younger children. However, for older children a cabin bed can be particularly useful for the extra space under the bed.

Cabin beds are traditionally beds that are raised off the ground and can also be know as low, mid and high sleepers. Low cabin beds normally have storage options such a drawers built into the bed frame. Whereas mid and high sleepers are likely to create more space below and require a ladder.
Storage under mid sleepers are perfect for smaller kids rooms. When there is a lack of floor space, adding a desk, drawers and shelving can be particularly useful. You may also find some mid sleepers that have a play area underneath the bed. Great for children who like a den or somewhere to snuggle up with a favourite book. Consider putting in some fairy lights and soft cushions or blankets for children to enjoy a cosy den.
Ottoman Beds – Storage For Kids Rooms
In a larger room where you would like hidden storage, then an ottoman bed may be quite useful. Ottoman beds lift up so you can store items under the bed, hidden in a box like style. This may not be a great idea for smaller children, but it’s perfect for older kids who have larger rooms.
Most ottoman beds are double’s, so it’s definitely not a storage option for small rooms. With a larger bedroom this is a great way to increase storage for less used items. Whether it’s extra bedding and winter clothing or less used toys, the ottoman bed will fit lots in!
A good way to use an ottoman bed for a child’s room is to keep toys in rotation. Have half their toys out to play on shelving and storage boxes. Then put the other half in storage under the bed. After a few months swap some of the toys around, so the toys feel more exciting and new, as they’ve been away! It actually works well. Also, with less toys out in view, it’s more likely they won’t get lost and will actually be played with.
