What To Expect
Each magazine begins with a brief review of interesting science news and discoveries. It’s laid out in a fun way to interest kids and normally has weird discoveries that the kids will enjoy reading about.
The majority of the magazine is based around whatever the theme that month is. Theme’s can be anything from Detectives to Ancient Greece and Geology to explosive science. They really do cover all interesting science topics! You can see the fab range of topics in the photo below, there really is something for everyone.
The hands-on science activities are always fun and engaging. There are usually several different educational activities alongside puzzles, riddles and jokes. For example in the Daring Detectives issue you can extract strawberry DNA and crack a detective case amongst other activities. In the Boating and Floating issue you can create a mini hovercraft and other floating boats. In the explosive science issue you can create firework art, paper water bombs and fizzing bath bombs.
Each issue also has an article about a famous scientist. Sometimes these are current scientists, others are from hundreds of years ago! However, they are always interesting and fit the theme of the issue.
The final pages of the magazine include a double spread to show off various pictures that and projects that kids have made. You can send them in to be featured and receive an enamel Wonder Club badge! There are other Wonder Club badges you can earn too, which you can learn more about over here.
At the back of the magazine you will find a quiz, jokes and normally a competition. The jokes are always popular here and we’ve even bought the joke and riddle book from the Whizz Pop Bang shop as gifts last Christmas. The joke book was actually for my dad as he loves silly kids jokes! My 11 year old particularly enjoys reading and solving all the riddles, so that’s perfect for him. He now has a whole book to work though and test us with!!
What Do The Kids Think?
I think it’s easy to see how much I like the magazine, but shouldn’t we hear what the kids think about it too?
