Ted and His Time Travelling Toilet Series
The premise for this series is in the title. It’s a time travelling toilet that Ted uses to travel to the past. All he needs to do is step into the toilet and flush, whilst saying where he wants to go! Not exactly the best way to time travel, but I suppose it must be effective!
Roman Rewind
The first book in Steven Vinacour’s series is Roman Rewind. Where, yes you guessed it, Ted goes back to the Roman time period.
With a Roman project to create for school, Ted goes back in time to find out as much as he can about the Romans. In the process he manages to impress the girl he likes at school! It’s a very humorous book, but definitely a lot about school and impressing girls!
Tudor Tangle
With prom coming up at school Ted decides to head back to Tudor times to learn how to dance. His main aim is to impress Chloe Onions from his class at school. However, this isn’t the easiest thing to do. Tudor dancing wasn’t quite what he was expecting, even with the help of Henry VIII! So he also chooses to go back in time to convince Elvis Presley to teach him to dance. With all that practice he keeps his fingers crossed that he can impress Chloe and become the prom night king.
Shakespeare Shake-Up
Ted’s school are looking for students for the play Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’s famous tragic play. So of course Ted puts his name down to audition for Romeo in the hope he can play opposite the girl he likes, Chloe. To help him get the part he goes back in time with his toilet to get advice from the real Shakespeare!
But when Chloe ends up in hospital he goes back in time to find Florence Nightingale. Hoping to get tips on how to help Chloe feel better.
This book definitely is more of a complicated love triangle, where one of the new girls likes Ted. But he also learns a lot more about history.
The Kids Verdict
My eldest finds these books easy to read and quite funny. Although as a home educated child he’s not quite used to how schools work or why liking a girl is complicated! But even so, he enjoyed reading the stories himself. The emphasising of words in different font was a great way to hold kids attention, which he mentioned he liked.
These are funny books that most kids will enjoy, plus there’s plenty of interesting history too!
