I love wreaths, but rarely seem to make the outdoor kind as the weather is always too wet for collecting when I finally get round to it! This year we have gone all fluffy and opted for a cute pom-pom wreath using a few items from here.
The base is a polystyrene ring that can be found at craft stores such as Hobbycraft. Most of the pom-poms were made using a mix of the traditional cardboard rings (by my lovely mum) and using the plastic pom-pom makers (by myself with a little help from my husband and mother in-law). You do need quite a few pom-poms to fill the wreath, but using the pom-pom makers we managed to get a good number made in quick succession.
I tried several different methods of sticking the pom-poms on as I was lacking hot glue sticks after O’s Halloween costume earlier in the year. Double sided tape works for a temporary solution, but will eventually fall off and PVA is just too weak. The only method of gluing them on permanently was hot glue, so this project has been delayed slightly until we managed to get some more (donated by a kind friend)!
I decided to go with a natural process of just picking up pom-poms and gluing wherever I saw fit. Then adding in smaller factory made pom-poms to fill in the gaps.
I love how colourful it looks and also how soft and homely it is too. I definitely think next year that I’m going to have a homemade year, more homemade decorations throughout the seasons and more homemade gifts too. It’s just so lovely to know it was made by your own hands in the colours and style that you want.
I also want my kids to know that not everything has to be bought. Sometimes it’s nice to make the presents and decorations too.
Visit Hobbycraft here to buy everything you need to make this wreath.
Are you a fan of homemade?
