Do you have any Christmas traditions? We are making more each year as the boys grow older.
Our first Christmas tradition is to put up the Christmas tree on the 1st December. I love Christmas and this is my favourite way of getting into the Christmas spirit.
Our second Christmas tradition is for the boys to have a different advent activity in their homemade calendar. These will always include some crafts, visiting Santa, visiting the Christmas market and Christmas baking.
We have also started a new tradition of a Christmas Eve bag. I decorated a couple of drawstring bags with snowman faces and picked up a few items from the charity shop (DVD, book and toy/game each, all in great condition) and then new pyjamas and a little fruit snack. This will be great to keep them occupied with the excitement of Christmas looming!
Of course we have a couple of traditions on Christmas day as well. When we come downstairs they can dive into their stockings and take out the Santa gifts, but all the presents under the tree must wait until they’ve had breakfast and dressed. When A is a bit bigger we’ll open the tree presents in turn so everyone can see each others gifts and say thank you for them (in my family we always started at the youngest to the oldest).

Ahh! Yay for waiting to be dressed before the main presents are opened! Apparently I’m a cruel mama, because we wait until after lunch! We seem to be adding to the traditions too! I love your activity advent calendar. That’s a lovely idea.

We have the Christmas gnomes (simple handmade felt things) that visit during advent. Each day they have a note with a message for my two children. This can be anything from asking them to deliver Christmas cards to wishing them lots of luck in their school pageant. They say when we get the tree and when we decorate the house. They also take the children’s Christmas wishes to Father Christmas. Occasionally they will leave a little treat (tickets to the pantomime or a chocolate coin). The children love them and mean I don’t get any nagging about when we’re going to put decorations up, buy presents, wrap presents etc as it’s up to the gnomes!
