A little while ago we harvested a few heads of our lavender in the garden to make some lavender playdough. It smells gorgeous and if you wanted to make the scent last longer you can even add a few drops of Lavender essential oils.
As usual I chose a simple playdough recipe and added the crushed lavender heads and purple dye to make an appealing invitation to play for the boys. They were clearly excited to play with it and enjoyed finding the tiny pieces of lavender within the dough.
Lavender Playdough Recipe:
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 3 tbsp veg oil
- 2 tbsp cream of tartar
- 1 cup of lukewarm water
- Purple colouring (we used red and blue mixed together)
- 6-7 crushed lavender heads
- (optional) lavender essential oils
Mix together the dry ingredients and then slowly add the water until the dough turns into a playdough consistency. Kids love helping with this, although you might need to get your hands in and help. It can be hard work to get the consistency quite right!
Knead in a few drops of colouring and the lavender heads (plus essential oil if using).
If too dry add in a little more water. But only a few drops at a time.
Then set it out for your little (or big!) ones to play with.
