Have you heard of a ‘Boo Basket’ before, possibly not, it’s a relatively new term in the UK. It originates in the USA, where you gift a neighbour a surprise basket full of Halloween items. With a little sign telling them they have been boo’ed!

You could add lots of sweets or alcohol, but instead of a traditional Halloween theme I’m going for a stylish autumnal themed boo basket. That way the items can be used for longer and not just for Halloween. Think hygge, cosy and warm items that you want to snuggle up on the sofa with or giving off a cosy warm atmosphere.

What Should I Include In A Boo Basket?
You can include anything you want! But first I would think about which neighbour you are going to leave this for. Then have a think about their decor style, food and drink tastes, what would they actually enjoy?

If they don’t do lots of Halloween decorations, I’d avoid ghosts and scary pumpkins. However, maybe they like more knitted and refined items. So think along the lines of a cosy blanket, autumnal wreath or fleece slippers.
Here are some ideas for what to include in a typical Boo Basket…
- Sweets and snacks
- Cute mug with hot chocolate and marshmallows
- Autumn themed soft toy
- Autumnal wreath
- Cosy blanket
- Warm slippers
- Scented candles
But you don’t have to stick to this list, there’s a lot more you can add to the basket. Think outside the box (or basket!) and consider their favourite items.
What Type of Container?

Before you can gather items to gift, you first need to find the perfect container to put it all in. I suggest looking for a larger round basket if you are including items such as a cosy blanket and autumnal decor. But for smaller items a little hamper style basket will do perfectly. I also added a handmade felt garland that I already had. It fits in perfectly with the theme. If you don’t have a garland then add a ribbon or fairy lights?

I chose this round storage basket which comes in a pair of two, perfect if you want to Boo two friends! Or just keep one of the baskets yourself for storing blankets through the autumn.
Great Seasonal Boo Basket Ideas

If you need more ideas here are a selection of great seasonal items to gift in a Boo Basket. I’ve displayed them as I plan to gift it, as much on show as possible for a bit of a WOW moment when the recipient opens the door to see it!
Seasonal items include pinecone candles, a soft orange checked blanket, knitted pumpkin and an autumnal wreath. They all compliment each other nicely and fit my stylish autumnal boo basket theme.

I’ve tried to theme the colours to autumnal palette of muted orange and cream. Each item compliments each other and a little soft toy squirrel for the young child of the family. It works perfectly as a seasonal Boo Basket. However, you may also like to add in a few other exciting things for your neighbour too.
Some Cute Extras To Make it Perfect!

The little extra gifts for her that I’ve included are a bouquet of silk flowers, chocolates and scented candles. A great gift for everyone. Tasty chocolates for the chocolate lover of the house, beautiful smelling candles and pretty flowers for display. A Halloween themed mug and hot chocolate would suit almost anyone!

I’ve also included a bracelet featuring a tiny acorn (staying with the autumnal theme!) for a teen in the family. Although I think this would suit any age person who loves jewellery!

And finally cosy slippers for that cosy hygge vibe. Everything in the basket screams warm, cosy evenings by the fire. Perfect for gifting to friends or family this autumn!

Of course, I’ve also added a ‘Boo!’ Sign to be displayed in the basket too! I simply created a quick sign using Canva and printed it out on card. It’s attached to a small bamboo stick so I can move it around and place it wherever I think is best.
Last thing you need to do is put at your friend’s door, ring the bell and hide! I bet they’ll be over the moon with their Boo Basket!
What do you think? Would you like to receive this Boo Basket?!
