The reason we’re making snowman cupcakes is because I created this tree advent calendar for O when he was 2. Each year I put in different advent activities for him (and now A too) to do.
So far this year the boys have had the task of decorating the Christmas tree (I managed to stop myself from re-arranging them!) and writing a letter to Santa each (currently they’re only asking for one present each, I wonder if that will change next year!). On the third day they pulled out ‘Make Christmas cakes’. Then I realised I hadn’t actually thought about what type of cakes to make! I know O loves marshmallows so I thought it would be nice to incorporate those and came up with these snowman cupcakes.
You will need:
Cakes (homemade or bought)
White icing
Snowflake sprinkles (optional)
White marshmallows
Black food colouring
Orange food colouring
1. Bake and cool cakes, we chose to make chocolate chip cakes, as both O and I are quite fond of chocolate. I’m very impressed at how good O is getting at breaking open the eggs. Looking forward to the day he makes cakes all on his own for us.
2. Ice with the white icing and sprinkle a few snowflakes on top.
3. We used the food colouring that come in tubes to draw on the details on the marshmallows. However, you can also use a thin paintbrush and dip it into the food colouring for more control.
4. Use icing to glue the marshmallow bottom and tops together and stick onto the top of the cakes. If you have any edible glitter then you can sprinkle a little on top of the cakes too.
5. Eat!
These are the perfect cakes to make with children, lovely and Christmas’y’, but not too difficult for them to help with.
What are your favourite Christmas cakes to make?

These are lovely Jenny! It’s great that O is so good at contributing to baking and decorating the cakes. We like to make things with cinnamon and ginger (usually biscuits) at this time of year. #HowToSundays

aww these are soo cute! so simple too (which is good because my little monster is almost 4) . Fab advent tree calendar! I have been thinking of making one (for next year now I’ve cut it a bit close :p) did you buy a kit or is that from scratch? Thanks for hosting another fab #howtosunday

These are very cute! I might have a go at making them myself since my little guy is a bit young to help in the kitchen. I love a cupcake and a marshmallow topped cupcake sounds brilliant! #howtosunday

We like picked biscuits too, but can’t go wrong with cake either! 🙂 x

Thank you! It was made from scratch, copying the design of a similar one I saw in a shop. Just cut out 2 tree shapes, sew 25 pockets with a different felt design on each and then sew together with a little quilt batting in between. Add a star to the top and your done! 🙂 xx

Even better when you get to make and eat them all yourself! 🙂 x
