Pond dipping is so much fun and really fascinating to see all the creatures that live in the pond. My children enjoyed it last year, we must do it again. Looks like a lovely day you had.

  12. Kate, Baby Routes says

Sounds like a great little trip out! Love pond dipping – used to spend hours trying to catch stickleback in our local stream as a child. What a great find!

  13. Sarah says

We love pond dipping too. So exciting catching a stickleback ! Thanks for having us on #WhatevertheWeather

  14. Stephanie says

Wow this looks like great fun!! Had not heard of pond dipping before (clearly need to get out more hehe) so am going to have to look out to see if they do something similar here in the Cotswolds as think the girls would really enjoy it.

  15. Nia says

What an awesome idea! One of our girls’ favourite books is called ‘in the pond’ so I must find somewhere to take them pond dipping near us! Wonderful and inspiring post! #whatevertheweather

  16. Claire at Tin Box Traveller says

We haven;t tried pond dipping with Tin Box Tot yet, but she is fascinated by little spiders and ants, so I think she’d love it #whatevertheweather

  17. Elizabeth (Wander Mum) says

How interesting – pond dipping is a great activity! I remember doing it a couple of times at school. Great introduction to biology! #whatevertheweather

  18. Sara | mumturnedmom says

Sounds great! Lovely when they have activities ready for you to use like that. The pond dipping sounds brilliant 🙂

  19. Alana says

  20. Keri (Baby Globetrotters) says

Sounds like a lot of fun, so great that you can borrow the kit there as I doubt most people have these things at home. It makes me very jealous that we now live in the desert and don’t have these little park lands near by #whatevertheweather

  21. Natalie Streets says

This looks so fab, and Oliver would love something like this, I’m looking forward to him being a bit older so we can go minibeast hunting and pond dipping! At the moment he has to stick with finding snails in the garden 😉 #whatevertheweather

  22. Mini Travellers says

What a lovely day out. We had a fab time this time last year on the beaches in wales with some fishing nets but looking for crabs. #whatevertheweather

  23. Maria (one tiny leap) says

Looks like such fun! I love pond/tidal pool playing, always a great activity to do with kids. Looks like you’ve had a great day out 🙂

  24. Lauren says

Sounds like a fantastic place to visit with kids. I love little places like that where you don’t expect too much but end up being pleasantly surprised. I used to love pond dipping-can’t wait to do it again with my child! Also in admiration of your skills in getting a sleeping baby into the carrier-I need a bit more practice I think! #whatevertheweather

  25. Morna piper says

It sounds fab- I get so many good ideas for days out from reading your blog. Just need the time to try them all now! #whatevertheweather

  26. Mudpie Fridays says

Looks like great fun, Monkey loves trying to catch fish although we are not every good at it!! Thank you for hosting #whatevertheweather xx

  27. Elaine Livingstone says

Gosh I remember when my girls went to Moray Primary in Grangemouth back in the 1980’s and this place started off as a small wildlife garden on waste ground which the school got involved in planting up.
Nice to see it has grown and expanded and is still going strong over 20 years later. How wonderful to be able to borrow the nets and things to go pond dipping. May well have to pop by one day when we are in the area.

  28. Sabrina (The Mummy Stylist) says

The last time I went pond dipping was on a geography school trip 20 years ago! I remember it being fun and trying to name the species we found. I totally forgot about this activity till I read your post! I’m guessing the boys loved it! I still don’t know if I’d take Tyler yet, it’s so mucky! Sabrina xx #whatevertheweather

  29. Sherry says

Sounds like a lovely adventure. It’s always good to encourage nature based activities, though I’m not so good with pond life! x

  30. Jenny Eaves says

We love getting out in nature, pond dipping has to be a favourite! Fortunately we were given an ID sheet to help us too. 🙂 x

  31. Jenny Eaves says

Ha ha! It wasn’t mucky really, just a few wee splashes if you stay on the boardwalk areas. Unfortunately the last time we went A decided to walk straight into the mud at the edge waist deep! Eek! So much fun though! 🙂 x

  32. Jenny Eaves says

It’s great now! You should definitely pop over and visit if you get a chance, a proper wildlife haven in the middle of an Industrial area with the trains going past. Fantastic that the schools helped plant it all up! 🙂 x

  33. Jenny Eaves says

Ha ha! That was a bit of a fluke I think! Although sleeping baby out of the carrier is happening more often now. I was so amazed with everything they had to do on such a small site, definitely shouldn’t rule places out from first impression! 🙂 x

  34. Jenny Eaves says

We definitely have to have a go with rock pooling at some point, not sure where the best place is to try that though, most beaches near us have no rock pools. 🙂 x

  35. Jenny Eaves says

We went again more recently when A was 18 months old and he had a good try at ‘helping’, but didn’t quite understand what was going on! 🙂 x

  36. Jenny Eaves says

Thank you! It was completely unexpected, I didn’t think we would catch fish, just little beetles and things! 🙂 x

  37. Jenny Eaves says

Definitely! I’m sure he would love it, wait until next year and he’ll be doing loads! 🙂 x

  38. A Moment with Franca says

I haven’t done pond dipping before. It sounds great!! I’m sure my little ones will love to do that, specially my 5 years old. Although I think I should wait a little bit longer for the little one (1 year old) to do something like that. Thanks for hosting, 🙂 x
    #whatevertheweather

  39. Jenny Eaves says

My 1 year old enjoys it as much as the 4 year old, but he doesn’t really get it! You should definitely try it! 🙂 x

  40. Chloe says

This place sounds so cool. I can’t believe it’s free to enter. I’d definitely pay more than the recommended donation. It’s definitely a place you can revisit again and again. I love places that have lots of little activities like this. We don’t seem to have one near us which is really disappointing. It’s brilliant that they give you little laminates so you can look for things. It’s so educational but tons of fun at the same time. We went rock pooling this week but only to have a peek. Next time we’re definitely going to take a little tray and a net too. Hooray to a busy linky this week! 😀 xx

  41. Jenny Eaves says

Thanks Chloe! It’s definitely a great place to visit, need to squeeze in one more visit before autumn is over! 🙂 x
