Best Types of Outdoor Christmas Lights
One of the things we love to see in this festive season are beautiful outdoor Christmas lights. Every year we walk around our neighbourhood to look at the Christmas lights and this year will be no different. However, this year we are also decorating our front garden with lights too! There are a huge range of Christmas lights that are perfect for this time of year. So have a read through and find the best Christmas lights for your house!
Battery Powered Lights
There are a wide range of battery power sources lights for outdoor use. These are the perfect choice if you would like multiple types of light displays in front of your house. Light strings along fences or a beautiful light garland draped across the front porch are excellent at creating a festive winter wonderland.
You will find many types of holiday lights that are easy to install and have waterproof battery cases. Our front door looks stunning with the pre-lit artificial Christmas trees and faux candle lanterns. Other options of outdoor Christmas lights include various animals that can decorate the front lawn or roof. I’d love a family of reindeer hopping around the front of our house. Unfortunately that would mean we wouldn’t have anywhere to park our cars!
No matter what battery powered light you choose you will find plenty of options of light strands and mini string lights that will suit your house. Mini lights are the perfect way to use less energy and only switch on when you’re actually home.
Plugged In Lights
Many outdoor lights need to be plugged in to a socket. This is great if you have an outdoor plug, however you can also buy special outdoor extension cords to take the wire indoors through a window or door. So don’t worry if you have chosen icicle lights this holiday season, you will still be able to plug them in using a cord. We were sent outdoor lights from Lights4fun and found them very easy to set up. Using an extension cable we could plug them inside and have beautiful lights outside the house.
We chose net lights to go over our hedge at the front door, it looks pretty and the wire easily squeezes through the window, even when it’s tightly closed. It also makes it easier to see where the hedge is if I’m reversing in the dark! Whoops! It’s easy to think you don’t have enough lights when you look at neighbours houses, but don’t forget to consider the energy efficiency and cost of keeping lights on. This is when having efficient lighting and timers are very useful, so you can continue having beautiful Christmas decorations, but that don’t cost you or the environment too much.
If you have trees in your garden you may like to use strings of lights to wind around the tree trunks. Sometimes this can look even better than draping the string of LED Christmas lights over the branches.
Type of Light
There are various different types of lights, from warm white, to single colour or even light projectors. Christmas décor doesn’t have to be boring, there are a huge amount of options for your Christmas lighting display. Consider how your lights will look when places together. If you are going for warm white strings of light, then consider adding some texture in the form of prelim garlands or TruGlow candles from Lights4Fun UK. Alternatively if you are looking for festive colours for your outside space then stick to 1-2 colours or intersperse colourful display items with white lights or those with a single colour.
To use less power on your electric bill you may also want to consider energy efficient bulbs such as LED’s or a timer so lights are not switched on all the time.
