Cleaning with kids really is like brushing your teeth whilst eating biscuits. It’s a constant every day, cleaning and tidying, trying to keep the crumbs off the floor and mud outside! All that cleaning takes a toll on my hands, particularly as I have eczema.
After cleaning my hands are dried out, flaky and often split with cuts everywhere. It’s not the easiest to look after the children when your hands feel like they are falling apart! So I was particularly pleased to be offered a hamper from Seventh Generation to try out their natural, plant based cleaning products.
Although I’m more than happy to use plant based cleaning products for the benefit of my hands, I did wonder whether it would be strong enough to clean up all the sticky mess and dirt that my family create. So that was the challenge, did it really clean up the same as other brands?
First up I tried the clothes washing liquid. Ok, I will come clean (pun intended!) and admit that the only reason I tried this first was that I had run out of my current washing liquid! The nearest thing on hand was from the lovely hamper on our kitchen top. I was pleasantly surprised that the clothes were perfectly clean and the clothes felt fine against my skin.
The clear washing up liquid looks a lot nicer and more natural simply for not being coloured. Dishes were perfectly clean and I didn’t feel that same stinging that I normally do when I attempt washing up. Not that I normally have to do the dishes, my lovely husband has that particular job.
We often have the patio doors open for the kids to go in and out during the summer. This of course leads to mucky handprints smeared all over the windows as they go in and out. It’s been a while since my last window cleaning attempt so I wasn’t sure if the seventh generation window cleaner would cut through the grease, mud and saliva (don’t ask!!).
And it worked! The windows are perfectly clean, it even took off some of the ingrained dirt in those badly designed grooves around the door. The boys were even happy to help with this task and I wasn’t worried about them getting the spray on their skin as it’s safe for use around children and pets.
So do plant based cleaners clean up as well as the other brands? The answer is yes! I was very impressed by the Seventh Generation products and I will be buying some when we run out.
Not only are they good for cleaning, but they are great at keeping my eczema at bay, good for the environment and safe for use around the kids. So a big thumbs up over here!
