We have been using the Green People sun cream for the kids and myself for the last couple of years. They are a pioneering organic skincare brand, who not only care about looking after our skin, but also using organic and botanical innovations in the process.
I have had eczema and sensitive skin all of my life, so I much prefer to use organic and skin friendly sun creams. Not just for myself, but also on my kids, as it’s mainly me applying it to them too!
Current sun cream that we have been using from Green People are the Children’s SPF30 Sun Cream (150ml), Scent Free SPF30 Sun Cream (200ml) and also their After Sun with Natural Insect Repellent (100ml). First let me tell you a little about these before I delve into their new exciting sun cream product.

Green People Sun Cream
The traditional sun creams from Green People are a mix of both physical and chemical filters.
A physical filter works by reflecting or refracting the suns rays, reducing the UV radiation from reaching the skin surface. They can works as long as the product stays on the skin and are mostly unaffected by UV radiation. In Green People sun cream these are non-nano Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide.
The chemical filters work slightly different. These filters react with the UV radiation turning the UV light into heat energy. Because of this the chemical filters lose their activity over time and need to be reapplied every 2-3 hours. Green People use mostly DHHB (Diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate) and DBT (Diethylamino butamido triazone) in their traditional sun creams.
We’ve used the traditional sun creams mentioned in the paragraph above for quite a while and are very happy with how they work. I still need to remind myself to reapply every 2-3 hours though, especially to myself as I burn incredibly easily! Fortunately I can attest to the fact that the Green People after sun works really well at soothing burnt skin. There’s always one little patch I miss. Whether it’s around the ankles or that little bit near my armpit.
Another thing that I love about Green People is that their sun cream is reef safe. So I don’t need to worry about the affect of the sun cream washing into the ocean. It’s good to know that Green People are a partner of the Marine Conservation Society.
And did you know that the bottles aren’t as plastic’y’ as they seem? They are actually made from sugar cane?! I love sustainable and planet friendly products from Green People.
New Scent Free 100% Mineral SPF30 Sun Cream (50ml)
The new Scent Free 100% Mineral SPF30 Sun Cream has been designed to include solely mineral filters. There are no extra chemicals in there for sun protection!
This is high factor (30SPF) sun cream with certified organic mineral sun protection. Ideal for those of us with sensitive skin, or simply wanting to make a difference to the planet.
Green People’s new 100% mineral sun cream is dermatologically tested and certified organic by COSMOS SA (the Soil Association). It protects the skin by reflecting UVA and UVB rays using non-nano Zinc Oxide sun cream. This instant protection means that you can put the sun cream on just before you go out into the sunshine. Unlike chemical filters, where you need to wait for 30 minutes before sun exposure.
I can confirm that it is non-greasy and easy to rub into the skin. Using the key ingredients of Aloe Vera, Sequoia leaf extract and Shea butter it is excellent for your skin. The aloe Vera soothes skin, whereas the antioxidant Sequoia leaf extract gives the skin a firm and smooth complexion. The shea butter is deeply nourishing and an excellent moisturiser.
As it’s fragrance free and all organic the sun cream is excellent for all skin types. I definitely believe it has benefited my skin whilst using it on holiday in Costa Rica this year!
But let’s go back to the main question. Is mineral sun cream as good as chemical sun creams? Yes! It is just as good as those that use chemical filters and as the sun cream also uses mostly organic products it feels even better for sensitive skin.
