Why Is Decluttering Important?
Decluttering can clearly make your living space less full of ‘stuff’, but why is it so important? The main reason to have less clutter is to have a sense of calm and a less stressful space. It’s amazing how much stress a messy cluttered room can bring! With less stress and anxiety comes better sleep and a boost in productivity and creativity. Great for those of us working from home!
With a lack of clutter there are less surfaces for dust and allergens to gather, plus it’s a lot easier to clean. This is particularly useful for allergy sufferers. I know that both pollen and dust can affect me personally, so this is a brilliant reason to declutter for me!
You also may come across some long-forgotten items or those you thought were lost forever. This can also lead to another benefit from decluttering: making some extra money.
Where To Start in the Decluttering Process

The hardest part of decluttering is working out where to start. The best suggestion I have is to think about which part of the house you find hardest to stay in, which area do you try to hide when visitors arrive? To start decluttering usually means making a huge mess. It’s inevitable as you sift through cupboards and shelves that haven’t been properly emptied in a while. So embrace the mess and make piles of things to keep and those to get rid of.
From your two piles you can then separate the keep one into those that are to go back in the room and those that are destined for storage. Sentimental items that have no place in your room can be easily stored in the loft or a storage cupboard. With the pile of items you are ready to get rid of you can separate them into bin, give away to charity and a pile to sell.
Once your piles are sorted put everything is away in it’s rightful home or out of the house. You will feel so much better to see the house begin to feel calmer and more open again!
Making Money From Clutter
It’s not difficult to make money from your clutter. It’s surprising just how many ‘things’ we have that we don’t use, but could be sold. You can put clothes that are in good condition on place like Ebay, beware of postage costs though. A good place to avoid the postage costs and hassle is to use the Facebook selling pages for your local area. People sell everything on there and as long as you don’t ask for too high a price you are likely to get some cash for unwanted goods.
However, if you have higher value items, such as gold and silver jewellery it may be worthwhile to look into Goldmonkeys to sell jewellery. I didn’t find anywhere to sell gold near me, but it is possible to easily do this online.
Goldmonkeys

Most of us have bits and pieces of jewellery or other small gold and silver items lying around. If it’s not being used and the money could be spent better elsewhere, then why not try Goldmonkeys for a free quote. They pay you for your gold and silver by the gram, so what seems like a simple piece of jewellery could actually give you a decent cash return. As the quote is instant you can find out what it’s worth before you even send anything away. It a great way to sell silver or gold easily.
Goldmonkeys also has a 4.9 scoring on Trust Pilot, with all of their customers being happy with the transaction. It seems like an easy way to make money from extra clutter lying around the house. Especially when you can put the money to good use around the house and garden, or my personal favourite – a holiday!
