If you’re a regular reader you will know that we love being outdoors and we are often found in nearby woodlands. I often search for new forest walks near me and this one really is one of our favourites. Little Drum Wood is on the road between Kilmahog and Brig of Turk (near Callander). There are lots of different things to find in the woods, including musical instruments in the form of drumming benches,’troll’ bells and a giant metal seed (check out the video below for our ‘musicalness’).
Little Drum woodland is one of the little known forest walks near me. We rarely see anyone else around the walk and it’s great to keep the kids walking without moaning, especially when they only have short legs! For adults with older kids you can extend the walk further on various other paths including this walk to Brig O’ Turk.
Aside the musical features, there are also little hideaways and several new ‘sensory’ boxes. These are where you put your hand in to find different natural items.
I filmed a few parts of our fun in the woods if you would like to watch:
If you need some more ideas for woodland play ideas check out my post here. Let me know if you have seen any other good forest walks near me in Stirlingshire.

Hee hee! Yes, if you watch the video you can see I’ve stolen the stick from O to play the troll bells too! I find it great as the boys will go from one thing to the next and that keeps them moving along the walk when they know there’s something else to fin. 🙂 x

So I had to google Kilmahog – and discovered you’re in Scotland – so far from me! I’ve only just been discovering woodland walks this year since moving out of London – so much more fun that just sitting in the park, I love walking around and the smell of the outdoors! These woods look great, I like the way they’ve added those sensory bits in, makes it more interesting for the little ones. Your video is great too – it really sounds like music they are making! #whatevertheweather

This looks like such an amazing place. I come from a really musical family so this would be right up our street. Perfect for big kids as well as small kids.
Your little ones are adorable. I love it in the video when one of them are just running down the grassy path way. That’s the best thing about being outdoors. They’re so free to run around.
There seems to be so much to discover, lots of little nooks and crannies.
Yay for linking this up to our very first linky! 😀 xxx

It’s such a lovely wood, but not so well known. We go there quite often as the boys love it, of course banging things is always going to be a hit! I had to film them running down the hill, they were so cute as they knew the little house was at the bottom.
Yay for our first week, now to make it even bigger and better!! 🙂 xxx
