Christmas is one of my favourite times of year, I love the build up and getting the house all magical for the children. I say for the children, but it’s also quite a lot for me too!
I can’t wait for the beginning of December when our Christmas tree goes up, al the decorations and we start listening to the Christmas CD, love it!
Hobbycraft recently sent us a hamper full of Christmas craft goodies and I have been busily making an advent calendar for my mum. Last year she made me 25 decoupaged boxes filled with Christmas items she had made or bought or sometimes chocolate. So this year I thought I would surprise her with her very own Christmas advent calendar.

I love to have a theme for gifts and decided that instead of random items, each day she will open a door to find another item to decorate a fairy garden. Of course she needed a garden too, so I reused a terracotta pot for that part.
What You Will Need:
Wooden Advent Calendar;
Decoupage Paper;
Glue;
White Paint;
Paint Brushes;
Adhesive Numbers;
Teracotta Pot;
Fake Grass;
Compost;
Blue Felt;
Scissors;
Tissue Paper;
Chocolate Coins (optional); and
Fairy Garden Items.

It may look like a long list, but you probably have a lot of those things around the house anyway. If you are looking for a fairy garden kit you can find a similar sets to this on Amazon.
1. Paint the advent calendar white and let it dry.

2. Glue areas of the advent calendar and rip up small pieces of the decoupage paper to stick on. Cover with decoupage paper until you’re happy, being careful to leave the doors open until the glue is dry, otherwise they may stick shut!

3. Stick on the adhesive numbers in a random order (you want to make it a little difficult!!) onto the doors from 1-25.

4. Place one or two items into each compartment along with a chocolate coin. Stuff a piece of tissue paper in front to stop the items falling out.
5. Fill the teracotta pot with compost (you can half fill with stones if you wish) and cut the fake grass into a circular shape to fit on top.

6. Cut a blue pond shape out of felt and lay on top of the grass ready for use.

Present the advent calendar and pot to the recipient and let them discover a little surprise everyday throughout December! Check out Hobbycraft here for all the items you need to make the advent calendar itself.

* I received the advent calendar for the purpose of this post, however all opinions and fairy garden themed calendars are my own.

Oh this is such a lovely idea! Your mum is going to love it. And I do need to start sorting advent calendars out too, thanks for the reminder!
