Children can spend a lot of time in their bedrooms, and so you will most likely want to make sure that their room is bright, fun and vibrant. However, it may be a good idea to remember that children are constantly growing and forming new opinions, so it may be a good idea to introduce aspects into their room which can adapt with them as they grow up into teenagers and young adults.

Give them a play area
If your child is lucky enough to have a large bedroom, you could consider adding a play area for them. This could be in the form of a pillow den with lots of colourful pillows and toys scattered around or an animal corner with lots of animal toys. Hopefully, a play area will keep any mess contained in that corner of the room. However, it may be a good idea to pack all of your child’s toys away at night just to prevent your child from being tempted to hop out of bed during the night to play.
Also, creating storage space in every room of your home is a practical solution to keep toys and clothes organised, as they tend to find their way outside of the bedrooms. You can find girls beds with storage that offer built-in compartments or under-bed drawers, providing a convenient solution to keep their belongings tidy and easily accessible.
Decorate the walls
Decorating your child’s bedroom walls is a great way to decorate their room without taking up floor space. One way of doing this is by putting up floating shelves. This way, they can display their child’s favourite toys, keep the floor space clean and tidy, and make the bedroom look less bare. You could also paint these shelves different colours or your child’s favourite colour. Posters and fairy lights are another excellent way to fill up empty space, and you could even invest in fairy lights in the shape of butterflies, seashells and rockets, depending on what your child likes. You could even display all of your favourite photographs from all of your travels as a family on the wall!
Create a reading nook
This is especially good if your child likes reading, or you want to encourage your child to read more in their free time. This can be as simple as buying a small bookcase and filling it with second-hand books that your child can peruse at their leisure or choose one for you to read to them each night. If your child does not have enough space in their bedroom for a bookshelf, then you could display their books on those floating shelves and get them some cool bookends to stop the books from falling over. It is always much more rewarding to read a physical book than to read an ebook, and by investing in physical books, you are making sure that your child sets aside time to spend away from their mobile devices.
You also want to make it cosy and comfortable. What’s the best spot to read all your favourite books? Some may say a comfy armchair, and it’s worth investigating child-sized armchairs for the bedroom if you like the idea of it. But, if the reading nook is by a window, why not order custom cushions for window seats instead? It’ll be the perfect relaxing corner for your child!
Let your child make some of their own decisions
Your child’s bedroom is their personal space, so if you want them to feel happy and comfortable there, it would be good to let them have some say in how you decorate the bedroom. Granted, some of the design decisions that children make aren’t the most aesthetic, but having control over the presentation of their room will give your child a sense of independence and responsibility that they would not have got if you had decided how their room looked for them.
