Whether you’re joining two families together or you’re marrying after having children, you may want to honour your younger family members by incorporating them in your wedding. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to do and will ensure that they not only enjoy the day but have some amazing memories afterwards too. Here are some suggestions for getting them more involved.

Let Them Help With Planning
Including children from the very start of your wedding planning will make them feel special and will keep them interested all the way through. Just make sure that if there’s something they’ll particularly enjoy, they definitely get to help out there. Some children love dressing up and clothes, so they can help with choosing a dress or suits for the day, and some will want to visit the reception venue, for example. A place like Clevedon Hall that accommodates children is an excellent place to start. And almost all children are sure to be enthusiastic about cake testing.
Older children could even assist with wedding website design by choosing favourite family pictures to include or by adding their own unique touches, such as a favourite restaurant recommendation (and even dish!) at a location near the venue or close to recommended hotels.
Include Them In Your Vows
Recognising your children in your vows is a simple way to make a statement about your devotion to your family while also giving the children prominence on your big day. Family vows are particularly common in marriages with blended families, but you can use them any time you feel it is right to do so.
You can create the most wonderful and heartfelt vows when you include your children, showing that your marriage is about more than just the two of you; it’s about family and love. Always make your vows special to you, but for inspiration, look for ‘family wedding vows’ or ‘wedding vows with children’ and so on online. You’ll see just what we mean when you do that.
Give Them A Part In The Ceremony
Although it is traditional for the bride’s father to accompany her down the aisle, you can actually be escorted to the altar by anyone you choose. Children could be the right choice; it’s a role reversal that will tug at the heartstrings, be memorable, and allow you and your children to share something very special indeed. Any child would be proud to take on this role in your wedding. If you do want the bride’s father to do this job, then the traditional flower girl/child and ring bearer roles are lovely and easy ways to involve your children in the ceremony.
Give Them A Gift
In the same manner that couples often give their spouse a special gift on their wedding day, parents can do the same for their children. Necklaces and rings are popular options, but really the gift can be anything that they can keep forever, and that is unique to them. It’s a memento that kids will treasure for a lifetime, and it’s a great way to make them feel especially special on your wedding day.
