I like to do a little crochet in my spare time, although I think I’ve done a lot more amigurumi than scarfs!
However, it has been getting a little chilly recently and I need a new neck warmer that my toddler can’t remove from very easily! A crochet cowl it was. Of course it had to be quick as my spare time was limited, so this was made whilst A was napping and between helping O with his things. It could easily be done in half an hour by more experienced crocheter’s or at least those with little distractions.
I couldn’t find the exact pattern I wanted so made this up from several different patterns and a little free crochet.
You will need one ball of wool, either chunky or use two strends of DK like I have. I chose this gorgeous Sirdar Divine wool (length 150m, although I doubled my wool up, so with chunky wool you should need half the length) in the Lucia colour way from Cosywool. I used a 5.5 hook, but experiment with which size will fit your wool. The instructions below are written in UK crochet terms.
1. Ch 60 and SS in 1st Ch (check it fits over your head!)
2. In the next row: tr, ch 1, sk 1 and repeat until you reach the ss in previous row.
3. To get a twist in the cowl tr in the 1st chain in the row below (so the bottom of the cowl becomes the top), ch1, sk1 and repeat until the end of the row.
4. Continue *tr, ch1, sk1* for as many rows as you would like. I stopped at 10 rows.
5. ss and weave in ends to finish.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Enjoy your crochet cowl!

I love it! Crochet is my nemesis! Usually I can pick up new crafts quite easily but I just can’t grasp it. I’d love to make one of these, wish we lived nearer so you could teach me! xx #howtosundays

This is so pretty. I do know someone who is great at crochet, so I might get her to help me with this. We’ve been planning to learn for ages. Thanks for sharing your pattern x

That looks so pretty and not too difficult to make. I have not long started learning amigurumi but have found it tricky keeping the tension consistent! Thanks for hosting #HowToSundays

I could be tempted to give this a go with only a one-hour time investment required! I’m terrible for taking on big projects which never get finished – still working on a large knitted scarf with complicated leaf pattern from two years ago :/ Great post! #HowToSunday

This is so cute, I wish I could crochet! I did take a class but can’t remember anything, it’s really frustrating. I love the way you can just whip something useable and pretty up in an hour! Becky x #HowtoSunday

This looks so cool, might have to get my mum to make me one! Crochet, or in fact anything that involves any creativity, is not my forte 🙂 #howtosunday

Hee hee, that’s what mums are for! My mum is a knitter and knits any pattern for me! 🙂 x

The Frozen blanket sounds lovely, I’m always amazed at how quick things can work up with crochet, my mum is a fab knitter and despaired at my useless knitting attempts, but crochet is so much easier and quicker (for me at least!). 🙂 x

I’m rubbish at knitting, but crochet is so much easier. 🙂 x

You should definitely try! I taught myself from books and You Tube, much easier than knitting! 🙂 x
Jenny Eaves says
Oh no, I’m sorry it was painful! You could always ask someone else to crochet it for you?! 🙂 x
Jenny Eaves says
It’s really easy once you know a few stitches, I taught myself. 🙂 x

Check out some crochet books from the library, the basic stitches are really easy! 🙂 x

Thank you! I’m all about the quick crafts nowadays, it’s hard to find time when you have kids and blog! 🙂 x

Aww, this really won’t take long, there isn’t much too it and because it’s chunky it works up so quickly. 🙂 x
