We are taking part in Becky (3 Princesses and 1 Dude) and Leandra‘s (LarabeeUK) #TATsummerfun Instagram challenge where participants post a photo of the day’s theme. Today’s theme was playdough and I thought long and hard (ok, I thought for 5 minutes, browsed Pinterest for 5 minutes and then Bam!) and decided to make ice cream playdough.
I chose a recipe that is meant to make quite realistic looking ice cream playdough, but is very simple.
All you need is:
– 1 & 1/4 cups corn flour;
– 3/4 cup hair conditioner; and
– cocoa powder (optional for chocolate ice cream).
Mix together to get an ice cream consistency, if too runny add more corn starch, if too crumbly add more conditioner.
O loved playing with this and making us ice cream to eat with sprinkles (coloured rice) and cones (egg box pyramids, thank you to whoever suggested this in another #toddlerapproved post).
I let A have a go too, after some convincing he stopped trying to eat the coloured rice and started scooping it into the cones.
I would definitely try this invitation to play again, but next time I will try several different ice cream flavours using colouring and essence.
Do you like playing with playdough?

This sounds amazing although I’m sad because I thought these were going to be edible! I’m so glad to read a UK post – I’m so fed up of seeing amazing things from the US on Pinterest and then realising I can’t get the ingredients (Borax in particular) I still have a question though……..is cornstarch the same as cornflour? Also would flavoured and coloured hair conditioners make the ice cream coloured and the right smell? We have a lovely coconut conditioner that only costs £1 a bottle which I would be willing to sacrifice.

What, hair conditioner! I would never have thought to use that as a play-doh ingredient haha! Actually I’ve never even made home-made playdoh either, think we’ll have a go next week! Sabrina xx

Sorry,they do look quite tasty! And did I say corn starch? I meant corn flour! Will have to go back to edit. We used coconut flavoured and blue coloured conditioner and just added a fair bit of cocoa powder, just make sure you add a little more conditioner if you put in lots of cocoa powder. Definitely give it a go! 🙂 x
