I had heard of Parcelgenie, but wasn’t quite sure what they did. So after I was asked to review a brand new gift text service they are offering I looked up online to find out exactly what they did.
They already have an app. that you can download and use to send gifts to anyone who you have a mobile number for. But this review is of the text service, which means you don’t even need to download an app. Which is great as there are so many different app.’s already taking up my space on my phone, that I don’t need another one!
Parcelgenie are also giving all first time users 50% off the text service, which is excellent value!
To use the service you simply need to text Parcelgenie saying which gift you would want to send (you’ll have to have a look at the options online first) and who you want to send it to.
A text will come back asking for your friend’s mobile number and Parcelgenie will text them to ask for their address and you can pay for the gift.
Once your friend texts Parcelgenie back with their address their gift will be sent out ASAP.
There are several gift options, I particularly like the Owl-trageous gift;
and the Chocolate pizza;
The gifts vary in price from £1.99 – £8.49 including postage. Which is pretty good considering the quick delivery and pretty packaging.
I chose to send an owl-trageous gift and a mini picnic hamper (only available via the app. at the moment) to my friends to see how easy it was to do and to find out what they thought of the gifts themselves.
One friend sent her address to Parcelgenie and the gift was despatched quickly, but my other friend was a little more cautious and wanted to check she wasn’t sending her address to something dodgy. I think this is because the text they receive is from you, but may not sound like your normal texts!
After confirmation it wasn’t dodgy she tried to text her address, but was told that her account would be charged, which of course put her off texting. I have been informed by Parcelgenie that you will not be charged for a text, despite the possibility of receiving a text informing you so. Fortunately as I sent this gift through the app. I could fill in her address for her, so she wasn’t charged for anything.
The gifts themselves were well received, although it would have been nice for the senders name to be included on the card inside and perhaps a little arrow to show where you should open the parcel so you don’t wreck the pretty packaging.
This is definitely something I would use again, but I do wish there was an option to send a surprise gift, by texting Parcelgenie the address yourself and not notifying the recipient until they receive it. I love surprises!
If you want to send me a chocolate pizza or some chocolate stars (notice a theme here?!) then I wouldn’t say no!
