Our house is filled with books. Although my husband and I rarely have time to finish a book nowadays, we still read plenty of books with the kids. We have books on a huge range of topics, from trains to kangaroos to painting.
The boys often ask to bring books with them wherever they go. We have books in the car and when we visit relatives, but I don’t like to carry stacks of books with us when travelling by train or bus. It normally takes us an hour to travel by train to Edinburgh, so we already have a bag full of nappies, snacks and water. I really like to keep the kids entertainment to a minimum, otherwise I will have a sore back from carrying so much!
Although I try and minimise the children’s entertainment when we are travelling by train, I also want to have enough to keep them occupied. I’m not sure what everyone else’s kids are like, but my two can get quite loud and rambunctious. So when I was told about Ebookadabra I was intrigued.
Ebookadabra is an app for your phone or tablet that has hundreds of books available to download. It is currently only 99p a month, so well worth testing out if your children are like mine.
The app is easy to sign up to and you can include the children in the signing up process with their own avatars and writing their name. First you choose the family avatar (each choice is a different type of dog) and then you can choose the kids avatars.
Each child has their own ‘bookshelf’ with the books they choose to download. Our eldest loves trains and so we have found a few trains books along with others he liked the look of. Each time they finish reading a book they receive a ‘sticker’. The stickers are collected in their own sticker page and they can also unlock educational games to play by reading more books.
Although I love physical books when we can, this app is perfect for when you are travelling or away from home and have limited space. Once the books have been downloaded to your device you no longer need to be in somewhere with internet to read them. Which is great for when you’re in an internet black spot.
Another great feature of Ebookadabra is that you can record yourself reading the stories and the kids can look at it whilst they hear you reading. This is fab for when you’re all strapped into the car and can’t see the book to read it to them!
So if you would like to have hundreds of kids books at your fingertips, then download Ebookadabra!

Oh I love this idea, Lia loves someone reading to her so this would be perfect for the car if I recorded myself reading the books.
