Martinhal Oriente Hotel
The Martinhal Oriente luxury apartments are within Lisbon’s most modern district. With plenty of local attractions, restaurants and transport options close by, this is the perfect place for a Lisbon holiday.
The luxury apartments have been designed to have everything you need and more. From a fully equipped modern kitchen and washing machine, to quiet bedrooms and even curtains that open at the touch of a button! The curtains are probably going to be your children’s favourite thing in the apartment.
There is plenty of places to relax, including a lovely outdoor pool, and dedicated work places along with a gym for over 16’s. The kids will also love the playroom, which has plenty to keep them occupied when you’re in the hotel.
And definitely pay attention to the artwork in the hotel. Martinhal Oriente has unique pieces of artwork dotted around the hotel, all by Portuguese artists. You certainly can’t miss the giant dragonfly sculpture at the entrance, entirely made from rubbish! The same artist also created the lion picture in the lobby from upcycling toys and other materials. The lift area has an artwork that runs up every floor. Starting at ground level the art maps ‘The Sea, The Sky And Everything Inbetween’! Each apartment has it’s own artwork too, so you can be inspired wherever you are.
Family Friendly Welcome
As soon as you arrive at Martinhal Oriente you are greeted by the wonderful staff. Every staff member we encountered were friendly and helpful. The staff at reception when we arrived were no different.
Arriving late a night we were quickly directed to our room and the children were given an origami fox to receive a gift from the playroom staff. Each child, no matter the age, is given a gift of a small Martinhal backpack and some goodies inside. Younger children have toys and older ones are given a water bottle and luggage tag. Secretly I think mine would have still loved the soft toy fox, despite being 11 and 13!
Where Is Martinhal Oriente Located?
The luxury apartments of Martinhal Oriente are within the Park of Nations. This is to the North East of central Lisbon, but only 20 minutes by car or metro from the centre. The Park of Nations was originally designed as a residential and commercial destination for the world expo in 1998. Since then it has grown into a fantastic family friendly destination for both visitors and locals.
How To Get To Martinhal Oriente Hotel
It’s just a 10 minute taxi ride from Lisbon airport to Martinhal Oriente. There is also the modern Oriente train station nearby, which connects the North and South of Portugal.
Apartments at Martinhal Oriente
Martinhal Oriente has a range of luxury apartments available. There a variety of different sizes to suit different budgets and requirements. From studio apartments with the kitchen within the main bedroom area, to 2-3 bedroom apartments with more space for family to spread out in a separate living room area.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom luxury apartment and you can read a bit more about what to expect from this below.
Two-Bedroom Luxury Apartment
As you enter the apartment you arrive in a small lobby area attached to the kitchen/diner with large comfy sofas for relaxing. There is also a washing machine and dryer hidden away, perfect for cleaning those messy kids clothes, covered in ice cream or last night’s dinner!
Through a short corridor is a family shower room and toilet, complete with Martinhal robes for the kids. A room with twin beds for the children and then a double en-suite room for the adults. The bedrooms are spacious and include robes and slippers, great for going to the pool or spa. There is also a safe, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries.
Martinhal Oriente Facilities
Martinhal Oriente is more than just luxury apartments. It also has places to relax, enjoy the warm climate or just chill. And if you need to get some work done, they’ve got that covered too!
The Terrace Restaurant
There is one restaurant at the Martinhal Oriente, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s called the Terrace restaurant and serves a fusion of oriental and mediterranean meals. And don’t miss the awesome neon Koala artwork on the wall!
A complimentary buffet breakfast is provided to all the guests at the hotel. The breakfast is delicious with a wide range of food options, from pancakes and pastries, to sausages, eggs and beans.
Dinner reservations include a kids menu for younger children. Or they can choose more creative meals from the main menu. My 13 year old and I both enjoyed delicious meals from the main menu, whilst the youngest decided to opt for a simpler kids pasta dish.
Kids Playroom
One of the reasons that this family friendly luxury hotel is excellent for children. The playroom is split into two areas, one for younger children, that can be closed off when the staff have kids club open. The other area features space for board games, cinema screen, pool table, table football, table tennis and PS5 computers for older children.
Although my 13 and 11 year olds and I spent most the day exploring. This was a fab space to come and spend some downtime in the late afternoon or after dinner. They especially loved the access to a pool table, even though there skills are still lacking!
Swimming Pools
There are two swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoors. The indoor pool is large, although in the summer it’s not used by families very much. I can imagine it would be good if you would like a proper swim in the morning. Most people seemed to use the outdoor pool when we visited in the summer.
The outdoor pool also has the bonus of a trampoline to the far side. Numerous children would run from the swimming pool to jump on the trampoline for a while, then back in the pool again. It’s definitely a big hit with the kids!
There are plenty of sun loungers and chairs around the pool. As soon as someone leaves the pool attendant removes any rubbish and left towels. So it’s easy to get a space. You can also order drinks to the pool area as well.
Spa
Perched high on the 15th floor of Martinhal Oriente is the spa. It’s worth visiting simply for the breathtaking views across to the Tagus River! However, this calm sanctuary is also the perfect place to unwind and relax.
A number of treatments are available, including facials and massages. Martinhal Oriente use VOYA, a certified organic sustainable natural skincare brand that is seaweed based. This is also the same brand used for the toiletries in each of the luxury apartments. It certainly smells divine.
The spa is not just for adults either. Martinhal Oriente also offers a wellness experience for tweens and teens (7-14 years old), so they can soothe growing muscles. A great introduction into wellness for children.
Gym
For over 16’s you can use the gym free of charge. It’s located on the same floor as the kids playroom and workspace. It can be busy in the mornings, but even in July it was never full when we walked past.
Martinhal Oriente can also offer Yoga and Pilates or a personal trainer to help you reach your fitness goals.
Workspace
The workspace provides the perfect calm and quiet area with ergonomic furniture and cutting edge technology. There are private call pods for uninterrupted communication, or open shared desks that are perfect for brainstorming or small meetings.
Places To Visit Nearby In The Park Of Nations
Oceanario
The Lisbon Oceanario is a huge aquarium reached by a bridge over the water. It’s an 8 minute walk from Martinhal Oriente.
You can observe a huge number of different sea animals in the gigantic central tank. As you spiral round the different exhibits on each floor viewing areas appear into the central tank, allowing a different angle at each window. Spot a variety of sharks, a sunfish, rays and thousands of smaller fish.
Pavillion of Knowledge
Just a 5 minute walk from Martinhal Oriente is the Pavillion of Knowledge, a fantastic science centre. You can easily spend the majority of the day exploring.
Expect lots of fun and interactive exhibits, from a high wire bike to learning about how astronauts prepare for space. One large room is circus themed and is great for younger children, with a variety of different hand-on activities. We also enjoyed the aquarium room, where you can colour in a sea creature and watch it appear on the cartoon aquarium in front of you.
During our visit the downstairs exhibits were based on Pixar and movie science. It was very interesting, with sections about how to build characters for basic blocks and the difference in adding movement to water, clothing and hair.
Water Gardens
One of the best bits of the Park of Nations are the water gardens. Routinely switched on around midday, you can find waterfalls, erupting volcanos and plenty of awesome sculptures.
It’s a good idea to spend half a day exploring the area and finding all the fun sculptures and water fountains. These areas are all around 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel.
Cable Cars
It’s a 5 minute walk to the cable cars that take you on a short journey over the Tagus river into the sky. They don’t go anywhere in particular, but it’s a fun return ride for a good view.
You can also book this as a combination ticket if visiting the aquarium too.

Martinhal Oriente luxury apartments are the perfect place for a family. We definitely loved our stay here and would head back to this or another Martinhal resort in a heartbeat.
