What Is tastecard?
The basic premise is that tastecard is a restaurant discount card, most restaurant offers are half price or 2 for 1. This is the basic gist, however the membership cards can also give discounts on cinema trips, theme parks and other days out too. You can choose from having the tastecard app on your phone or a physical card for your purse. For those on the monthly or free trial can only use the app, but you can request a physical card for annual memberships.
You can currently get a 30 day free trial of tastecard and then the membership cost is £5.99 monthly or £39.99 for a year. If you have a bank account at the Royal Bank of Scotland or NatWest, check to see if you receive an annual membership as part of the benefits.
A tastecard membership can be good value if you eat out a lot throughout the year at UK restaurants or are perhaps a monthly card to use whenever you visit big cities, such as London. If you feel like staying in you can also use the tastecard on Pizza Delivery with Pizza Hut, Papa Johns and selected Domino’s in Yorkshire and London.
Other exclusive offers include discounts on Hello Fresh, plus offers for life insurance, cruises, booking.com and clothing shops! So it’s definitely something to check out when you sign up, it’s not just food.
Great Vegan Restaurants On tastecard
There are lots of great restaurant discounts on tatstecard, including Prezzo, Carluccio and Pizza Hut. Of course these are just the large chains, but you can also find local restaurants too. Near us that means a lot of Indian restaurants, but also surprisingly some local hotel restaurants that have afternoon tea available!
I must admit it isn’t always clear looking at the tastcard app which restaurants have vegan food available. So you need to click on the individual restaurants to find out what they have available for vegans.
I have found that various chain restaurants on tastecard do Vegan food. Including (but not limited to) Pizza Hut (a range of vegan pizzas), Ask Italian (Vegan pizzas, pastas and salads), Prezzo (pastas and pizza) and Zizzi (Pizza and risotto). If you look at independent restaurants then you may well find that they have dishes that are vegan, such as those in Indian restaurants. Don’t forget you can also get a food delivery on tatsecard using the pizza delivery section, most of which have vegan options too.
If you want to guarantee vegan dishes you will definitely need to check the websites in advance or phone up your favourite restaurant on tastecard to ask.
Our tastecard Experience – tastecard Review
To book a restaurant you will need to phone up in advance, which can be fine, however not all restaurants answer their phone quickly! We did have to try a few times before we could get hold of someone to book the restaurant we wanted. Remember to also mention that you are using the tastecard when you arrive, they may not actually have noted this anywhere from booking.
It’s also worth noting that different restaurants do not take bookings on Friday’s and Saturday’s, which are their peak times. I highly suggest checking this in the app when you click on the restaurant. Some restaurants have a limited number of people for each booking, which can be annoying as a family of 4 when most are for 2 people only.
Pizza Hut Vegan Meal
Our meal out was great, we chose to visit Pizza Hut as it’s an easy place to visit as a family and they also have vegan pizza’s available. I was happily surprised by the choice of vegan pizza dishes available. Their vegan pizzas include Vegan Hot ‘N’ Spicy, Vegan Pepperphoni and Vegan Veggie. There are also vegan flatbreads, salads and sides available.
The vegan pizza tastes very similar to the other deep pan pizzas, although Violife is used instead of mozzarella. The kids menu also has vegan pizza options and vegan southern fried ‘chicken’. Plus you don’t need to miss out on dessert! There is vegan cheesecake and raspberry ice, both completely vegan and delicious! Don’t forget the salad bar and sides too, there are lots of yummy vegan treats available there too.
So is tastecard worth it for vegans and vegetarians? In my opinion, yes! There are a huge selection of restaurants that offer discounts on vegan meals. So if you tend to eat out once a month or so then you will definitely save money using the tastecard. Plus you can use it on days out and cinema visits too!
Free tastecard App vs Physical tastecard
The advantage of tastecard app is that you don’t need to worry about losing your card and you get instant access to the card. As you always have your phone on you, well most of us do, then it’s easy to take wherever you are going. You will still need to phone up and book a restaurant table in advance with whichever option you have.
The tastecard app also has the advantage of a map to see the number of restaurants around you that have special offers using tastecard. So you can see if there is anywhere nearby that you can get a discount on your food bill. As you can also receive discounts on days out, it’s useful to check areas you are visiting in the UK on the app’s map too.
Cinema Tickets and Days Out
Both the VUE and Odeon are on the cinema discounts listing of tastecard. Which is good news if you like to visit the cinema together! With up to 40% discount on cinema tickets at 350+ cinemas then you will easily find something nearby, The great savings on the cinema ticket price means more spare change for popcorn and treats! It’s a good deal if you enjoy visiting your local cinema together!
Days out on tastecard include up to 50% on attractions including popular brands such as Alton Towers Resort, London Theatre shows, Chessington World of Adventures and Indoor Skydiving! There’s a surprising number of affordable price attractions available to choose from, well surprising when you think tastecard is all about discounted meals!
