Skiing As A Beginner – How Hard Is It?
Kids tend to pick up skiing quicker than adults, so don’t be concerned when your kids are shooting off quickly after lessons and it’s taking you more time! Learning to ski as an adult is a lot more difficult than it is for kids to learn. We have fear, they do not, or at least not as much as us! A beginner ski holiday is a great way to learn together ..
That being said you can easily pick up the basics after just a couple of lessons. It won’t be long before you are on the green runs. The more difficult part is going from snowplough to parallel skiing. We’ve not sent the kids off to ski school before, as we are all roughly the same ability, which is beginner! However, we have instead taken family lessons, which is much better for spending time together as as family. This works well for us!
Ski Lessons – Beginner Ski Holiday
If you have experience skiing, but the kids don’t, then by all means book the kids into ski school to learn. However, if you are all more or less the same level of beginner then it makes more sense to learn as a family so you can all stay at the same sort of level together.
Beginner lessons often start with your instructor assessing ability and deciding whether to stay in the easy, short learner slope. Or they think you are ready for the easiest green runs. The good thing about a ski lesson is not just that your instructor is showing you how to ski, but they also show you suitable routes for your ability. Knowing which routes will get you down safely, without accidentally going on a red or black run, is very useful!!
It also helps to choose a ski resort that has plenty of green and blue runs. This way you can try out various runs rather than the same one over and over. You’ll find plenty of routes at Le Grand Bornand, a fantastic French resort in the Alps.
10 Reasons To Go On A Beginner Ski Holiday
Why should you go skiing as a beginner?! Read on to find out more about a beginner ski holiday.
Leave your comfort zone.
Too often in life we go through each day as part of a routine and do the same thing day in and day out. Nothing different and the thought of doing something makes us feel a little anxious and unsure. But for this reason, to overcome those anxieties and gain more confidence it’s important to leave your comfort zone and try something new! Of course it might be a little scary, but the feeling of pride and accomplishment is completely worth it!
The views.

You really can’t beat the views from the top of a snow covered mountain! It’s amazing and makes it all worth it!
Exercise.
As a beginner it’s going to feel like a lot of exercise. Mainly because you are tense and unsure of what you are doing. It gets easier the longer you are skiing. But as a beginner you will definitely get lots of exercise!
Bonding time.
Bonding with family or friends whilst learning to ski is great bonus. You’ll have time to sit and chat whilst on the ski lifts and lots of laughs as everyone falls over or impressing each other when you manage to parallel ski down rather than snowplough!
Adrenaline rush.
You will certainly feel an adrenaline rush going down the mountains. Especially when you try a steeper run than normal, giving a fantastic feeling of accomplishment.
Food.

At most of the ski resorts you will find several restaurants and cafes on the slopes. Which means you can ski part way down a slope and have lunch before skiing the rest of the way down. Or you just stop for a drink to admire the views!
Vitamin D.
Most of us spend too much time indoors during the winter and so we do not get enough Vitamin D. But if you are spending hours outside during the winter skiing then you can receive plenty Vitamin D to keep healthy.
The snow!
Well of course, just being in the snow is a novel and fun activity. It’s amazing to ski on, try sledging and having snow ball fights. It also looks very pretty too!
Winter activities that aren’t skiing.
This leads on from the snow really. There are so many winter activities that you can enjoy that aren’t skiing/snowboarding. You can try snow shoeing, sledging, snow bikes and more. Check out what is available locally.
The views! Again!
Ok, technically this is the same point again. But seriously, I can’t get enough of the views when we’re skiing! There are so many places with awesome views, but the Alps certainly have some amazing views, not that we’ve tried skiing anywhere else yet. But I can definitely recommend France ski holidays.
