Where Is The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel?
The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel is located in the Old Town of Hamburg, Germany. Not too far from the town hall (Radhus).
Hamburg is a major port city in Germany, right on the River Elbe. Allowing ships to travel up the river from the North Sea. It also has plenty of canals throughout the city, allowing smaller boats (mostly tours now!) to get around the city.
How To Get There
Hamburg is easy to get to from the UK. You can either take the train, via the Eurostar, to France or Belgium and then onward to Hamburg. The ferry from Newcastle or Hull to the continent and then train again to Hamburg. Or there are direct flights to Hamburg from all over the UK.
We travelled on a direct Ryanair flight from Edinburgh to Hamburg. There are also plenty of direct flights from elsewhere in the UK, including London airports.
The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel
This classic hotel has a modern feel inside, with plenty of references to Hamburg’s port heritage. With various ‘shipping crates’ and murals on the walls. The reception is small, but easy to navigate with children, not much room if you are a larger group. They also have free luggage storage available for the day you are leaving.
There is a bar and restaurant near the reception as well as the main restaurant nearby. The main restaurant is where breakfast is served. For the days that the main restaurant is not open then there is food available at the bar, however there is not a large variety of food for children.
Family Room
The family rooms are spacious and light, with a little desk and a separate comfy chair near the wardrobe. We had 2 large double beds, easily enough space for 4 people. With Hamburg dockland themed decor, including shipping crates for bedside tables and subtle city outline on the lampshades.
The beds were very comfortable and there was plenty of space for the kids to play quietly. If you have younger ones who like to play on the floor, then this is perfect for them.
The bathroom is an average size with sparkly surface around the sink and a huge metal grate decoration on the floor. It certainly looked very beautiful and clean!
Benefits For Kids
The Renaissance Hamburg Hotel encourages families to visit with lots of fun benefits. At reception you are given a kids activity pack that includes a kids activity book, VIP kids pass, pencils, Hamburg colour-in cards and a treasure map.
The treasure map was the kids favourite part! You need to answer the 6 questions to find the safe code. Then take the map to reception and unlock the treasure chest! The chest is full of toys and the kids get to pick one toy each. Believe me when I say this was a hard decision for them, so many to choose from!
The children also had a sweetie platter each that they obviously loved. It included Haribo’s, smarties and juice. So the kids were definitely very happy with their stay!
Breakfast Buffet
There’s a great selection of breakfast items at the buffet. Plenty of hot food, fruit, bread, honey, cheese and meats, plus Danish pastries and cereal. We also loved the selection of fruit juices available.
For younger kids there is a low down dresser filled with breakfast items that they may enjoy. It’s the perfect height for little ones to help themselves and gain some independence. I love this idea, as it wasn’t too long ago that my 9 year old was too short to reach breakfast items. He tried to be independent, but had to ask for help usually.
Does Renaissance Hamburg Hotel Have A Swimming Pool?
No, it doesn’t have its own swimming pool. However guests at the Renaissance Hamburg Hotel are able to use the Marriott hotel swimming pool, just a 3 minute walk round the corner.
There is however a gym at the Renaissance Hamburg Hotel.
What Is There To Do In Hamburg?
Hamburg has plenty to do for a weekend away! The main family attraction is Miniatur Wunderland, a fantastic model world filled with railways, ships and vehicles. Plus lots of fun scenes to spot and even work using the buttons.
For adults there is the concert hall Elbphilharmonie and a fantastic range of dining throughout the city. With boat tours, a beach, plenty of parks and museums you’ll find something to keep everyone happy!
