Disclosure: This is a collaborative post about motivating your children to learn
Most kids are not born as great learners. These are the kids that end up written off during their school years. Then there are other kids who are not born good learners but they learn how to be good learners. This sounds very wordy, but I promise we have a point! Any student who possesses the basic aptitude and receives that correct motivation can be an excellent learner. It’s actually one of the biggest mistakes that teachers and parents make. To write off a child who doesn’t learn in a conventional way.
But as they say, if you judge A fish by its ability to climb a tree, then the fish will always look like a failure. Children learn so many different ways. Where there are some cerebral children who are really interested in mathematics or engineering for kids, there are others who want to be fairy dancers and who will express themselves in music, and art. Some children like to sit down and learn by rote. Then there are other children who like to get up and move their bodies to be able to learn and memorise. If you really want to enhance the child’s desire and ability to learn, then you’re going to need some strategies to help. So, we’ve got some tips below to help you to motivate your children to learn more.
Motivate Your Child To Learn
- Encourage them to read. They don’t have to like sitting in a classroom, they don’t have to like doing science experiments. But if you help your children to learn how to love reading, you’re going to have an excellent learner on your hands. Most children who struggle with reading will struggle with learning overtime, and children who develop a love for reading will develop a love for learning. Sitting with your children for 20 minutes a day even at bedtime just to read his story will help to encourage them to learn more.
- Go with them. Instead of being a dictatorship at home or at school, allow the child to be the one in the driver’s seat. During the school years, children receive nothing but rules and control. They must be in certain places at a certain time and behave a certain way and never be late and never be sick and never have an off day. We don’t expect that level of control from adults, let alone children, so when they feel too controlled they will break out of that by acting up. However your child likes to learn, figure that out, work with them and let them guide it. The self motivation will develop on its own when you are allowing your children to do this.
- Communicate. You have to allow your children to express their opinion about the way they are learning. Some children will love it, other children will hate it, but you have to listen and you have to help them to feel engaged. The last thing that you want is for your children to disengage from their learning environment, so let them talk about their current feelings on their education without being judged or discouraged or ignored.
