Today we, like many others across the country, looked to the sky to watch the partial solar eclipse. Fortunately it wasn’t too cloudy and we saw quite a lot!
I explained to O how the moon would pass between earth and the sun, blocking some of the sun’s light and showed him a few pictures of what we would see through the glasses.

At 9.30 am the three of us headed outside to see what was happening. Fortunately the sun was just above the houses behind our garden and we could see the moon taking a tiny bite out of the sun.

We watched intermittently with the glasses, swapping them between O and I, whilst I tried to keep an eye on A who had decided that as mummy wasn’t watching he was going to dig in the vegetable patch with his hands!
I tried using a colander, but couldn’t get it to work very well and used the pinhole method with the two pieces of card instead, we had a very small little crescent shape appear. If you look closely at these pictures below you will see our eclipsing sun, I’ve circled the crescent shape to help you find it!
We watched the moon pass over the sun until around 10 am when the clouds came over and we headed back inside to clean the small one up and have a snack.
O and I made these ‘solar eclipse’ biscuits while I tried to get glimpses of the last bite of sun reappearing through the kitchen window.
He really enjoyed his first eclipse experience and has been showing me how the sun disappeared behind the moon with his hands!

I’m sure there will be another where you are sometime? Not another eclipse in the UK until 2026, but probably some elsewhere in the world!

We didnt see that here sadly but I felt it. It went cold when the moon was covering the sun! It really is awesome esp if you are a kid to witness eclipse! #countrykids
