We had a lovely sunny Friday last week and then the next day we were woken by thunder, lightning and torrential rain. Unfortunately it was the day of our local agricultural show, which looked like it was going to be a wash-out.
I imagine most of the people involved in the show and running stalls would have been in tears watching the rain streaming down the roads and fields, but it eventually stopped around midday.
We donned our waterproofs and walked along a path through the woods to the field it was being held in. Where we entered the field we were right next to the inflatables and fairground rides. O had a go on a couple of rides and A and I went down the inflatable slide a few times.
We then walked down the hill to the main show ground, past a chainsaw wood carver, who always makes the most amazing animal creations out of wood and then to the fancy new tractors for farmers to inspect.
The boys were lucky enough to be allowed to sit in one of the tractors and they were quite happy sitting inside surveying their surroundings for quite a while.
Our next stop was to the few remaining sheep in their pens. We missed the animals parading around the show area and most of them had been taken away by the time we got to the pens. However, A loved looking at the sheep baa’ing away at him!
When we arrived at the show area two horse and carts were leaving the ring. I would love to have a go, it looks fun!
Many of the stall sections were empty, I assume they decided not to come along on such an awful morning. But there were a few interesting stalls, including The Wee Kitchen Company that sell amazing flavoured jams, including chilli for those who like it hot! Personally I dislike chilli, but my husband tells me that the chilli jam is delicious. Visit their Facebook page here.
A visit to the craft tents to look at the lovely wooden and fabric items and some delicious cakes, then back to the tractors for a final look before heading back up to the rides.
O had a go at the hook a duck and won a green tractor and A won a plastic microphone that makes your voice sound louder.
By this time O was getting tired so we headed back through the gate and along the muddy path home, happy with our fun, if muddy afternoon!
