I’ve recently been annoyed at my android phone for running out of space. It wasn’t until my husband had a look at my data usage that we realised that Instagram was taking up a whopping 350 MB of space and the main reason why I could only have 30 photos on my phone before I needed to delete them! So I researched why Instagram data usage was so high on my phone and this is what I found out:
Do you know that Instagram creates a cache of photos on your android or IOS device? This cache grows larger each and every time you share and use the Instagram app. So if you’re a heavy Instagram user then the app. will take up a growing amount of space on your device.
To check how much space Instagram is taking up on your phone then follow these steps below:
Android Device go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Instagram
The data storage total should be listed.
IOS Device go to Settings > General > Usage
The amount of storage should be shown.
Most articles I’ve looked at online have suggested that the best way to clear the cache and free up more space on your device is to simply delete Instagram from the device and then re-install it.
I also found that, on my android phone, I can simply delete the cache by going into manage applications (as above) and clicking on Instagram, then clear cache. This took my data usage to 24 MB. I then deleted the app and re-installed it (to find out if it makes a difference), which took my usage to 14 MB, which is a lot better than it used to be! I’ll definitely be deleting my Instagram photo cache every so often from now on, I need photo space!
Have you checked how much space Instagram has taken up on your device?
