This weekend we have splashed out and bought ourselves a family tent, bought with my Ebay earnings after a lot of packaging and sending completed the previous weekend.
In light of this new purchase we’ve been thinking about places we would like to go camping with our new purchase and I’ve made a bucket list of 10 amazing camp sites that we would like to stay at.
#1 Carnfunnock Country Park, Northern Ireland. My parent’s have just visited Northern Ireland and came back with leaflets for this fab camp site. The site has the normal camping facilities as well as a minature railway (surely a hit for O), adventure playground, walks in the woods, geocaching, fitness trails and more. A fantastic place to visit for all the family.
#2 Comrie Croft, Comrie, Scotland. This eco-camp site is quite close to us, but would be a lovely weekend away. The site is set in a beautiful woodland with walking trails and bike trails. This a perfect get away from it all site.
#3 Horgabost, Isle of Harris. Horgabost camp site is just round the corner from the most beautiful beach, Luskentyre (my dad and I wild camped there when I was younger, such a beautiful place). A perfect place to spend the days playing on the beach, boat trip out to Taransay and exploring the rest of Harris.
#4 Bryher Campsite, Isles of Scilly. This site look amazing, another coastal camp site with fantastic views and a chance to experience small island life. The island is small, but you can try out various water sports, beaches to explore and a local community centre with a table tennis, a pool, books, games and a play park.
#5 Rothiemurcus Estate, Aviemore. I won’t lie, the main reason we want to go here is for O. The UK’s highest and longest funicular railway is just round the corner on the Cairngorms and they have a steam railway nearby too. The camp site itself is set in beautiful ancient Caledonian Pine woodland and they have lots of activities available from off road driving, archery to wildlife watching and canoeing (most are for older children than ours).
#6 Glen Brittle, Isle of Skye. Chris and I have visited Glen Brittle on numerous occassions to climb the Cuillins and look at the amazing views over the hills and out to sea. It’s really in the middle of nowhere, in a little glen on the Isle of Skye. The campsite is well kept, beside a lovely beach, with a small shop and beautiful walks around the coast (and the hills for older kids). You can also explore the rest of Skye from here too.
#7 Naturesbase Holidays Campsite, Wales. A family campsite with a fire pit outside each tent. Lots for kids to do, trails, adventure playground, make your own pizza evenings with their clay pizza oven, a recreated iron age hill fort to play on, children can help feed animals and collect eggs and even a converted barn with books, toys and games.
#8 Cerenety Campsite, Cornwall. An eco-campsite, promoting sustainable living within a 7 acre site. The pitches are spaced out so there is lots of room to run about. Every pitch has a fire area, there are animals for the kids to help feed and even a veggie plot to pick your own veg (honesty box for veg). I’d love to visit Cornwall and this would be a great campsite to base ourselves.
#9 Great Langdale Campsite, The Lake District. I love the Lake District, I have many great memories of holidays there as a child and would love to take the boys camping in the Lakes. This camp site is situated below the impressive Langdale Pike and boasts an adventure play area, bouldering wall and bike hire along with the usual camp site facilities. Of course there are loads of attractions to visit in the local area too.
#10 Fidden Farm, Isle of Mull. Mull is a gorgeous Scottish island, with beautiful views and direct access to the beach. You can wander around the island, hire bike, try sea kayaing, bird watching take boat trips out to the Isle of Iona or Staffa (similar to the Giant’s causeway).
Admittedly a little Scotland heavy on our list, but we don’t know where there are other great campsites in the UK, so if you know of any fab campsites for families elsewhere please let me know in the comments. I would love to visit some undiscovered (to us!) areas.
Do you like camping with the kids?

What a great list. We’re looking at going camping with Evie this summer and had no idea where to start looking. This is perfect. I hadn’t even thought of the Isles of Scilly either and that’s really close to me. Definitely bookmarking this page!

We’re quite keen on the camping lifestyle 🙂 I can recommend camping in the New Forest. There’s some beautiful spots and plenty to do in the area. I like the sound of the fire pits at Naturesbase and we’re also fans of the Lake District. Enjoy your camping adventures! #mummymonday

I haven’t camped out in years (probably not since Glasto 2010) but I absolutely adore it. I’d really like to go camping with my family when my daughter is a bit older. I used to do it lots as a kid and have fond memories of those trips. I hope you make lots of lovely memories with your new tent. What a brilliant thing to spend your eBay earnings on. #MummyMonday

I’ve camped at Glen Brittle before – amazing location but I primarily recall hiding in our tents to escape the ferocious midges!

Oh no! It’s best when there’s a breeze in Scotland, most campsites seem to have that problem I’ve found! 🙂 x

We’ve just returned from a few days camping in Derbyshire, there are some lovely sites there. We stayed at Barn Farm in Birchover.
